1) CNN is tanking isn't it?
2) Girlfriend needs a new and very high paycheck.  Softer quasi entertainment in the future? How did his talk show do?
3) His arguments about why he didn't come out in the letter to Sullivan are spot on.
4) I never begrudged him his "glass closet" because, after all the reasons in number 3.  It's an open secret in the USA, but why should he have to deal with the bias and danger internationally?  Its not like he makes is living as a pop star.
5) Cooper is so charming I can only wish him well.

That's what I was thinking. Didn't he come out years ago?

... and for what it's worth, Anderson's partner Ben used to tend bar at the first place I had a date with my ex-partner, and then went on to open another gay bar with a guy I was friends with when I first moved to NYC (who now dates a porn fisting star from German). Who gives a shit

I think it is good when anyone in the public eye comes out.  Seeing the president come out for marriage equality and celebrities come out of the closet (even though he was not that deep inside) helps to make people realize it really is okay to be gay.  I am often surprised at the number of gay 20-somethings who pretend to be straight.  I thought those days were over.  And, it isn't just the guys who want to act like they're straight to feel more manly.  These are young guys who are still so scared of how their families and friends will react.  I have a friend from highschool, who is definitely gay, but cannot admit that.  So, he got married to a woman.  I feel bad for him and the wife.

I read a couple of articles on HuffPo that made some good points. One was the idea that being obviously gay and high profile but not owning your sexuality is perhaps worse than keeping your business completely secret in terms of perception.

And the glass closet -- those closets of people like Anderson, who have been known of and thought of as gay, but have not said it -- can perhaps be even more damaging than closets that are less transparent. A mother of a gay son who called my radio program yesterday explained that she was so ecstatic that Cooper was now out because her young son certainly was able to glean, like many others, that Anderson was gay, but also gleaned that he was likely afraid of being open. And that, she said, was a bad message for her son. But seeing Anderson out and proud, she said, tells her son that there is nothing to fear.

Another observation was that Anderson Cooper referenced God in positive terms regarding his sexuality.

Anderson: "In my opinion, the ability to love another person is one of God's greatest gifts, and I thank God every day for enabling me to give and share love with the people in my life."

Anderson Cooper thanked God for his ability to love another person of the same gender, and thanks God every day for the love he has in his life. In his easy manner, Mr. Cooper is saying his sexuality is a divine gift, and that he is thankful to God that he was so wonderfully made.

That is some beautiful and powerful stuff.

And it also goes to the heart of the fight for full rights for the LGBT community.
Religion remains the central battleground for gay rights and most of the anti-gay rhetoric relies on the argument that being gay is 'un-natural' and goes against God's design. It is an insidious line of attack that makes people, especially young people, to distrust and despise their own experience of desire and love.

Anderson rejects that idea with his two easy sentences -- his ability to love the way he loves was given to him by God and he thanks God every day for it.

Take that.

Well I don't have that kind of faith. God didn't give me HIV and I don't thank God for it nor for the science that makes it manageable.

Or, do you mean its soul eating to let bias and fear limit disclosure?  This all depends on context. Many times yes.  Cooper had good justifications for not disclosing concerning his career.

Also, for a long time he seems to have felt it was not the public's business to know his sexuality.  So I guess the same could be said there too.

It will be helpful when more well known people are also known to be HIV, except of course you don't wish HIV on anyone and nobody wants more HIV in the world.

I wondered if he came out HIV POZ what would the reception be like.  What would the double entendre of that HOT MESS illuminate in this world at this time.  "I AM, I AM GAY, I AM POZ, THEREFORE I AM GET OVER IT."  Maybe the lady protest too much, but this Scarlet Letter is a heavy weight to bear.  Coming out Gay is so cliche, the new pariah is coming out Poz.  My intent here is to communicate my suppressed emotions of feeling outcast so sorry if I wandered off the a bit.

Yeah I know what you mean. The double whammy of coming out gay and poz is not a joke.

Is it possible to not be into Shemar Moore or Will Lemay?
