Decorating Breakthrough
« on: June 12, 2014, 03:10:15 pm »
I have just done some decorating thanks to Mondrian and Cognative Behavioural Therapy. My whole flat needs decorating and I prefer to live in a state off on going redecoration than tidy drabness. But what I want is bright clean painted walls and a place for everything and everything in its place.

The whole project has periods off stasis as the hour a day ,if I am lucky , energy I have for this is defeated by the whole task.

Having lived with all white interiors for 35 years , I want some changes , so some small 4 sided shapes off colour have evolved. Thank you Mr M

CBT  in essence "a bit at a time"

The wall a canvas and hey presto more decorating got done this week than in the preceding 8 .

Have a superstition that when I am cleaning the paint brushes after finally finishing that yellow square I will drop down dead .

One canvas at a time. Makes sense to me as otherwise our projects can be overwhelming when we are so often energy-free.

White walls are wonderful to showcase beautiful art but I find colored walls are better for me. We don't have a white wall in the house. My favorite is our half bath painted in a deep eggplant with muted white trim and vibrant orange mottled glazed pottery that pops. I smile every time I sit on the toilet.

I might skip that last yellow square just out of defiance. lol.

Yes. Many times. I doubt it would help.

Michael, a half bath here is generally described as a bathroom with a sink and a toilet. No shower or tub.

Have a superstition that when I am cleaning the paint brushes after finally finishing that yellow square I will drop down dead .

So throw the paintbrushes away instead of cleaning them. Problem solved.

Are you going for one of those Sodomite-meets-Grandmother vibes full of delightful tchotchkes and a hint of Chintz-Lite? Or do your china cups for daily tea suffice in that regard?

I've used their color visualizer to help a friend via email volleys to make a color selection.

You may want to try this for your next homage to Mr. M.

I would love to repaint my penthouse apartment but there's too much stuff in here to move around to do it. I actually bought the paint right before I began having foot surgeries but it's impossible now.

Plus living on the 4th floor and you suddenly realize you need something mid-way in the process from the hardware store necessitating a five block jaunt to buy it. I just know it would not turn out well.

A little exercise would probably do you good .

Michael,

A painters tip for you, if you are going to paint a few days in a row, you can wrap your brush in aluminum foil and refrigerate them until the next day.  Take them out, an hour before you want to paint and you are good to go.

It also works for rollers and if you have to go a few days between painting, freeze them and then thaw before using.

Today ... I have worked out and did yard work ... and that little clip on my belt that tells me how many miles I walked ... its reading 4 and something and that's without counting the 20 minutes on a treadmill .

You did not walk 4 miles -- those opiates must be really strong. And your lil' belt mechanism from Walmart... well, nuf said. Was that made with Thai slave labor?

I also did 4 loads of laundry -- each load involves 60 stairs up, 60 down -- carrying a load of laundry no less. Then I went out on three outings so that's another 240 stairs. Grand total: 840 steps -- not sure what that is in terms of a skyscraper. Mind you, you're on massive amounts of painkillers while I am not.

Seriously, where do you get off on lecturing me about exercise when I don't even own a car? You got nerve. The only other urban dweller (with no car) with chronic pain issues on this board that I can think of is Theyer, and I do not believe he lives in a fourth floor walk-up.

Please ... the reason I can lead a near normal life is because I am treated for my chronic pain . I do understand why you are so defensive though .

Any way ... getting up and moving doing laundry and taking walks are good to keep you active but they are routine and do not count as exercise . I do think you would benefit from a gym membership ... its not a lecture its just my opinion .

I do think you would benefit from a gym membership ... its not a lecture its just my opinion .

I plan on getting one once my financial situation settles down -- you more than anyone here know that I've been hit repeatedly by "non-normal" expenses not covered by my insurance this year: $400 for new orthotics, $100 for "refurbished" orthotics, $275 for crowns on my teeth, plus as yet unknown amount for 12 session on physical therapy in January/February (have no idea why I've yet to receive the bill but around $150 -- more if they don't approve me for assistance), plus my upcoming aquatic therapy (8 sessions) which I just did intake for on Wednesday (another $150). And since my ketamine cream has not been approved I may be able to obtain if with patient assistance but that will cost me $25/month minimum.

Anyway, with all those costs that I can't keep track of much less budget when they will be due -- in addiction to the $207/month I pay in insurance premiums -- I am hesitant to take on a further $75/month gym membership at the present time.

Thanks for your concern though. Hopefully by Thanksgiving I may be able to swing it. I was hoping to do a gym membership in January when they run cheaper deals but like the previous three years, 2014 has just gotten worse than those years. I realize you have good intentions but you do not live with my bank account.
