Overwhelming fear, questions on my case.
« on: November 28, 2012, 07:35:49 pm »
Folks, over the past few weeks I probably read about 1000 threads.  I cannot however, get this fear out of my stomach and would like to ask some questions.

At the beginning of October, I began my first gay experience (I am 28).  We met on a site, he's a nurse who came to Canada in 2010.  Prior to coming, he had to pass an HIV test (twice, once in 2007 too).  Since, he claimed he has not engaged in any risky behaviors or had sex, period.  It's been his consistent story.

Anyhow, in the 2nd week of October, we began to engage in oral sex and had protected sex for a couple minutes once (without ejaculation).  Concern, he initially started to put the condom on backward before adjusting it correctly (is this a risk?)   Secondly, one day we had oral sex about 5-6 hours after I had a dentist's needle in my mouth - he took out a nerve in the back, no tooth was removed and no cavity filled.

We never ejaculated in each others mouths, we did this max 10x.

Just over a few weeks ago I began to develop 'symptoms (I know, the term is vague)'.   It started out that I felt I was getting the onset of a cold, I know cause I get it often.  Congestion in the nose, then a couple days later I had a fairly good sore throat for two days or so.

Okay, so I started to get worried there cause normally I don't get sore throats like that.  At the same time, I started to feel weak - I go to the gym so I know my body.  Perhaps I was overdoing it, I don't know, but I was dehydrating quicker.

Anyhow, then I start to get diarrhea.  At first, I was petrified.  Then I realized I had just consumed 8-cookies that were made with sugar alcohol products, especially Maltitol and Sorbitol (prescription laxatives) which does upset peoples stomach or can trigger IBS (no idea if I have it).

Anyhow, over 3-weeks later I am still suffering from loose stools.

I may or may not have had a fever, as I didn't notice headaches but I did feel I got the chills once or twice (could be from the super hot basement, I don't know).  Can't recall muscle aches, but I did feel weak for a few days.

Now a few days ago I developed a minor canker sore, not sure if I bit my lip or not.  Its gone now.  Now I noticed another tiny microscopic one at the back of my jaw, it's gone now later in the day.  Some say you can get this from stress and lack of sleep (i've been suffering from both....)

But what can I say about the sore throat and prolonged DIARRHEA?

Is this a common symptom.  I read diarrhea was prevalent in 32% of cases of ARS.

The thing that messes me up, when my sore throat and dehydration started, was shortly before I ate those cookies +1/- day or so.  I did find some others who suffered from 2+ weeks of diarrhea, but they didn't engage in risky behavior as I did.

I would be greatly appreciative of an answer re: my risks + symptoms.

Thanks in advance.

If you are concerned about your symptoms see a doctor. You never had an exposure.

Thank you for the 'rapid' response Rapid Ron,

But can you clarify, if possible:

1) the Diarrhea symptoms

also, he suffers from Hemorrhoids.  What if you engaged in an activity like rimming, but didn't penetrate the inside? Is it a risk?

Canadian,

You haven't had a risk. Unless you've got absolutely terrible oral health (google "meth mouth" for an example of what I mean), oral isn't a risk. Ejaculation wasn't even involved in your case.

There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Canadian,

I deleted the thread you started in the Research forum. As you are not hiv positive, you are only permitted to post in the Am I Infected? forum and the Off Topic forum. Before you get any ideas, the OT forum is ONLY for subjects that have nothing to do with hiv.

The study you cited in the Research forum is old, outdated and disproven (they basically plucked numbers out of thin air). The page isn't even available on the CDC website anymore - your link was dead.

If you post outside of your own thread here in Am I Infected again, you will be banned.

Please consider yourself warned!!!
