Abso maybe losing treatment? I hope not!
« on: September 16, 2014, 10:38:10 am »
Long story but basically I'm on my parents insurance, and I have another insurance plan through my job, however for brand name drugs it only covers 90% which would cost me $250 a month for Stribild, I can't afford that. And I really don't want to go into a 3 pill a day regimen in order to get Generic, and I've had such good luck with Stribild keeping me UD. I've emailed my doctor to ask about ADAP and see if I can get coverage. In the meantime I'm freaking the eff out!

gilead copay assistance card

https://www.stribild.com/paying-for-stribild

Abso,

I use a Gilead co-pay card and it was relatively easy to sign up for and easy at the pharmacy. I hope it works as easy for you as it has for me.

You should contact a medical case manager at your local AIDS Service Organization who can assist you in applying for ADAP assistance.  Some ID clinics have a social worker who assists, but some don't.  In the absence of co-pay assistance from the manufacturer, you should definitely look into ADAP.

My issue is that my family doesn't know, and I don't want my family to see mail from ADAP, and my brother being a very active gay man would know what Ramussen university is for. I guess I'm just scared. I was just getting settled with all of this and now it's another road bump, but I'll get over it. I just want life to calm down

Abso, I am not sure I understand.  Are you saying that Kaiser California will not accept payments from Gilead's copayment plan?  That seems odd...there have to be others in your shoes that have figured this out...hopefully a case manager can help you navigate this.

Sounds like you have a choice

1.  Staying on your parents plan and verifying that Kaiser doesn't accept Copay cards.  That doesn't sound right, at all.  There's nothing special about a Copay card.  They just run it as secondary insurance after your primary.

2.  Get off your parents plan and find one on your own that you might be able to supplement with ADAP if you need to.  October is open enrollment for Obamacare.  Find a plan that you can afford and if you qualify, sign up for ADAP.

How old are you? Eventually you'll have to get off your parent plan anyway so you might as well start the process if you can.

Abso, I understand your family is not aware of your diagnosis, but this may be the time to deal with it.  If you do not feel you are able to, then you can always ask the ASO if you can use their address for mail from ADAP.  I know at the ASO I worked at, a lot of our clients used that address for their mailing address.

If you are having some kind of block about telling your family, you may want to seek out a counselor who can help you overcome your fears, anxieties, whatever it is that's standing in your way.

Like Bug said, you are going to have to get off your parents' insurance eventually, so you may as well get it over with.  But do seek out the nearest ASO and let a case manager handle this.  It will take a load off your mind.

Do you get your own EOB-- doc visits and prescription details?  I would have thought it would come to your parents, as they have the main plan.  I must be wrong, or this would already have been an issue.

Well two things, with "classified" diseases, they send nothing of any sort with kaiser, that can tie back to said disease. Also, for my medical ID it's all sent to me digitally.

So if you could get the same three medicines you are taking now, but in three pills to take at once instead of just one, what is the difference?

Ok, here's the low down, my sugar daddy Irish has cut a check to pay for the next years worth of my prescription. Telling me he couldn't picture life without his mistress. So I'm good for now.

Really, how many of you thought that was true? Lol. Anyways! I signed up and got approved for ADAP, plus found out Kaiser has a "low income" assistance package. Luckily my base salary qualified me for that! Yay! Thank god for OT, I didn't realize how little I was making. So anywho, between those two programs, pending final approval, I will have no medical out of pocket costs, and will get reimbursed from the last 6 months of copays I did pay. Crazy!!!! It may all be working out and I'm so happy that I can breath a little better!

Got my ADAP card today! Having weird dreams lately, dunno why, freaking me out a little. Anxiety has been high for no reason, and I can't knock the chest tightness it's causing. Yes, I've been checked for heart problems, everything checks out. I'll give it another day or two and then email my doctor if not better. Quickly approaching my 1 year mark of infection in December. Been in a bad depression the last couple days, thank you Irish for being there for me. I should post on here for more moral support, but you know I just don't want to be "that guy" the needy one, always bugging you- oh well. Now to get some sleep, please pray for no more nightmares. :)

Yes got insurance through my job, and found out meds weren't as bad as I thought, I misread the pharmacy section so my prescription is only $25 a month. But is covered for ADAP if I buy the 30 day selection, or I pay $75 for 90 day which I'm going to go with. I keep a backup supply so I can survive, but if I lose this job I'd be screwed. Ugh the stress.

The copay assistance program isn't accepted at Kaiser and only works on 30 day supplies I think.
