Some advice please!
« on: February 02, 2010, 02:52:50 pm »
Hey All!

I've been with my present partner near enough a year and a half. Before this i have had 2 sexual partners with unprotected oral and protected anal. Me and my current partner got tested last week because i had some Molluscum Contagiosum on the shaft of my penis. They we're barely noticeable really but we decided to get the full screening anyway.

My parter had it all done then with bloods but because they couldn't find a vein in my arm i had to go back today for bloods but i had all the other screening. We both top and this is unprotected as well, we are both in a monogumous relationship as well. His results came back today as all negative and mine have come back all negative minus the bloods of course.

I have had the bloods taken today but now i'm panicing as the doctor was mentioning these molluscum as being a sign of a compromised immune system. Whereas the nurse was saying that she sees them all the time. This has left me so confused and obviously researching symptoms online it brought up these are linked to HIV. I'm just looking for a bit of advice and would you have expected if i had HIV that this would have been passed onto my partner by now?

Thanks All

Molluscums are a very common happening and certainly not in anyway HIV-specific. Nor would I consider them to be an indication of a compromised immune system.

Since you did not have unprotected anal prior to being with your partner I don't see HIV being an issue for you. I expect you to test negative.

You just have to wait for a result but based on what you have reported I don't expect you to get any unhappy result. Hang in there. I expect things will be ok.

Cheers.

Thank you for your reply Andy, just for arguements sake and for my reassurance. After a year of unprotected sex with my partner i would have thought that he would have some form of HIV infection if i had it by now?

Lad,

Nope, you can never, ever know your own hiv status going by someone else's hiv test results. I know plenty of people who remained hiv negative despite having genuine risks with hiv positive people. My ex-bf was one of them. He remained hiv negative despite our having unprotected intercourse for 18 months before I was diagnosed with hiv.

However, as Andy told you, because you never had unprotected intercourse before this relationship and your partner is currently hiv negative, there's no reason whatsoever to believe that you would be positive. The only person you would have been infected from is your current bf, as all other incidents of intercourse were protected. He doesn't have hiv and he cannot infect you with something he doesn't have.

Congratulations on your happy result.

In terms of sexual activity, partners will remain HIV negative together as long as they do not have any unprotected intercourse outside of their relationship.

I'm glad you found the responses here to be helpful. Good luck to you.
