Bad luck with condom ..
« on: September 20, 2011, 05:15:22 am »
Hi All, been following the forum for the past few days, great job guys, information found in this forum are far unbiased and truthful ..

I had an incident 5 weeks ago with a SW TS, I always practice safe sex but my bad this time it broke, i'm unsure when it broke since i was kinda gentle on the whole process.. i only realized it broken when i pulled out and the whole top part covering the head is gone ... she freaked out but soon calmed after seeing me freaking out still unsure why... I did a Rapid HIV test the next day and it was neg..

I'm planing to get my 6 week test next week, just worried if i had infected with the HIV virus because of this slip  ???

Thank you for any advise or comments...cheers

Rock,

You are not likely to end up hiv positive following this condom break. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and more so from a woman to a man. I've yet to see the insertive partner test positive following a condom break.

While your risk is on the lower end of the scale, you will need to test.

The earliest you should test is at six weeks, as the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by this point. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Please read through the condom and lube links in my signature line. A correctly used condom rarely breaks. It sounds like you probably left a small amount of air in the tip - this will easily cause the condom to burst at the tip like yours did.

I'm expecting a negative result for you when you test next week. Just make sure you do test.

Ann

Most people will test positive roughly six weeks after an exposure, if they are going to.

I would be really shocked if you tested positive at the three month mark.

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. All but the smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure. Your negative at 5.5 weeks for a minimal risk would lead me to expect you to continue to test negative at 3 months.

I expect you to come out of this ok.
