HIV Pandemic?
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:25:52 pm »
The news is saying that H1N1 has been officially declared a pandemic by the WHO. The first in 41 years. Hasn't HIV been declared a pandemic? It certainly would have been less than 41 years ago.  If it hasn't anyone know why? I don't think that for our lives it would make one bit of difference just curious that's all.

According to Wikipedia HIV/AIDS is a pandemic. But maybe the H1N1 pandemic reached a higher level (6) than HIV/AIDS? That makes no sense of course but........maybe the higher level is because it's easier to spread than HIV. It's not like you have to get barebacked butt-fucked by someone who has it, being in the same room and shaking hands will do it so it has the potential of spreading much faster.

The 2009 outbreak of a new strain of Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 created concerns that a new pandemic was occurring. In the latter half of April, 2009, the World Health Organization's pandemic alert level was sequentially increased from three to five until the announcement on 11 June 2009 that the pandemic level had been raised to its highest level, level six. [2] This was the first pandemic on this level since 1968. Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), gave a statement on 11 June 2009 confirming that the H1N1 strain was indeed a pandemic, having nearly 30,000 confirmed cases worldwide.

In the wiki link Inching provided HIV/AIDS is listed as a current pandemic right under the swine flu.  Maybe the comment about 41 years refers to the last flu pandemic?
