Question for Isentress users

I took my first full dose of Isentress yesterday . I woke up feeling great from my first and only dose from the night before but when I took my morning dose I was very drowsy and slept most of the day and night , today my tongue tingles as well  . Is this a side effect for some of you on Isentress ?

I also started to take tagamet for some skin issues I'm trying to reslove and I heard it can cause drowsiness but its a rare side effect .

I'm one week on Isentress and loving it . I'm sleeping at night and wake up feeling like a normal 48 year old man with an insulin habit , a bad thyroid and no ass left to sit on .

Boy have we come along way since AZT mono therapy . I count myself lucky now looking back at how we fought to live back in the days of little hope and losses .

The new generation are sometimes fearful of the medicine available now that us LTS find a dream come true . I wish there were something , anything I could say to make a difference for those people .

JG- Tagamet is used to treat ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). I am curious as to why you are using it for skin issues.
As for the Isentress & (your other meds), I take Truvada, I have been on the train since mid March and in the first couple weeks I had a little problem with gas from the Truvada. I have had no SE other than that.

I'm on Isentress, Truvada, Prezista and Norvir, with a Dapsone chaser. And though it's twice a day dosing, which is about twice what I'd rather be taking, it has the least amount of side effects of anything I have ever taken - and I think I've been on everything except Hivid and Crixovan thus far.

Aside from the Norvir-related bathroom issues (I do a Godawful amount of laundry, and much of my typing is done from the bathroom) and a slight headache from the isentress, I have had no issues. I do have sleep stuff, but then again, I always have. Can't blame the meds for everything.

Remembering that horrible year of high-dose AZT monotherapy, and those fluffy first-generation Viracept that A) caught in my throat and dissolved before water could hit it and B) caused gastro-intestinal issues that nearly made a busfull of people wretch and vomit, this is a comparative walk in the park.

I have no one to blame but my own stubborn, effed up self when I miss a dose. And I am cool with that.

I have gerd and need medication for that . I choose to take Tagamet because if taken in the right dose it also will resolve flat warts in about 98 % of the people who use it for this off label purpose .

I have some places on my chest where I once had a break out of flat warts , my dermatologist seems confident Tagamet will clear that up as well as my tummy problems .

Here's a small blurb on Tagamet and warts.

There are so many wart remedies it is hard to know where to start or stop. Castor oil applications are highly recommended by our readers. But one of the few treatments that have actually been tested is taking Tagamet.

This research has been published in numerous dermatological journals. We consider this a "home remedy" because it is a novel use for this popular heartburn medicine.

One study found that more than 80 percent of treated patients had a significant response, though it did take six to eight weeks to see improvement.* The dose was 30 mg/kg/day.

Other studies have not had such success. Flat warts seem to respond better than raised ones.

How Tagamet might work remains elusive, though one theory has it the drug modifies the immune system so the body attacks the virus that causes warts.

Same combo as JK here sans Dapsone. No noticeable side effects at all - not even during the week of double Truvada dosing. :)

hi jg,

thanks for saying that...as a newer generation poz, i appreciate it. learning from the more seasoned crowd on here helps alot. particularly regarding experience with arv meds, etc.

I just started taking Isentress and have major fatigue. All I want to do is sleep. My doc said that sometimes Isentress causes major depression in those who already have that problem. If I don't feel better soon, I may have to change meds again, as I work full time and go to school. Right now all I do is go to work then go home to bed. That is not the quality of life I have come to expect since going on meds. I felt this tired before I started meds. Good luck with that and let me know if that side effect goes away. I will be watching....and will let you know if I change after all.

Breezy- You said that you "felt this tired before I started meds" so I don't understand. If you are able to go to school and work full time your doing good in my book.
How long have you been taking Isentress and what are the other meds are you taking with it.
I do feel your frustration....I had the same with Atripla.

As you see in my meds record, I had an ART medicines Parade, until the last 6 months of Isentress...no SE any more!

Yeah, I was the same when I went on Isentress.  It was the first med that I had no side effects from, and then when my lab numbers came in I was even more pleasantly surprised.

I'm over the top happy about it for sure . I was saying the other day in another thread that I haven't been sick in quite awhile . As soon as I made that statement I came down with the mother of all sinus infections from doing a favor for a sick friend , cutting 3 acres of dusty grass in 100 degree heat isn't the brightest thing for a guy with allergy's to do . When I get over this I'm going to feel great .

I'm on Prezista, Truvada, Norvir, Isentress, and Etravirine. Besides the nasty side effects from Norvir, everything is fine, but when I take the meds I get a little anxious and ther eis a persistent rash I get. My doctor says it is probably from Prezista (I am allergic to Sulfa). Isentress has posed no problem. If you are curious, Take your meds one by one at 1 hour intervals and check the side effects...That is how I discovered the culprit in my case...
