I recently found out I was HIV+ and have been very depressed and hungry for therapy.  I've been hoping to join some of the GMHC support groups but, although I've called the head of the department (at a staff member's suggestion), I've yet to hear back.  Granted, it's only been a few business days but, when you're depressed, 1 day can feel like an eternity.  I'm wondering if anybody has had similar (or dissimilar) experiences with GMHC?  And how do GMHC's HIV support groups compare with the Lesbian & Gay Center's? (I know it'll vary a lot depending on who is part of the group).  I have heard generally positive things about both organizations.

Thanks for your input.

Go here instead -- it's much better.  Very well organized and operated, plus they run several large groups each week that are "drop in" so you don't deal with anything other than showing up:

Thanks so much for this.  I will definitely look into this group as a friend of mine, an ex-volunteer in the mental health group at GMHC, told me that GMHC mental health staffers are notorious for not calling people back.  He says the GMHC hotline used to get complaints about this all the time.  What a shame given the real need people have.

Just an update-GMHC has contacted me, I've been to a few meetings and have found them to be fantastic. Very professional and they offer an amazing selection of services.  Am loving them...
