So here is my story, I met up with this guy I met online a week ago. I'm a homosexual male. We had anal sex and I was the bottom. I clearly told the guy to use a condom. So we had sex twice. The first time he wore the condom during the whole time and cummed outside. After a few seconds, the cum was on my body, he used some of it to finger me. Based on my understanding HIV is very fragile and the fact it was outside the body already, it was damaged and can't infect. I am not really worried about that.

What worries me, is the second time we had anal sex. Again I was the bottom. We were in a position that I could not see him but I know and felt he used the condom, I used my hands to guide him in. After a while he stopped the intercourse and then started again, when he started again I felt something was different. I knew from that instant he removed his condom. Basically what he did was put his penis in me, 3 times. It was like he pulled it out and then put it in, for 3 times. My rough estimate is that it was just in me for less than 30 seconds. I pushed him and he ejaculated outside of body again. Then proceeded with the fingering in the same manner as before.

I know unprotected sex, especially anal is a risky thing. I do plan on taking a HIV test on 3 month mark. However, I would just like some reassurance about the whole situation. I practice safe sex strictly and I was horrified when the guy confirmed that he didn't wear that condom during those seconds. I went to an ER department here in Hong Kong, to ask about my risk and to ask for PEP. The ER doctor said that my risk is low and that I do not need a PEP. However I only speak english and his english was not exactly 100%, so there may have been some miscommunication when I was trying to tell him the whole situation. He kept on clarifying with me but seemed not to get the whole picture.

So basically my question is, is my risk on the lower end of the risk scale? and would a test at the 3 month mark be a confirmatory result. I am still somewhat confused with the dates. Your response to this would be greatly appreciated.

Your test at 3 months post exposure would be conclusive.

We don't get into quantifying risk levels here. Unprotected anal intercourse and particularly receptive is high level risk. As you have described what occured there are some factors which would have made the risk somewhat lower than say if he had ejaculated inside you.

You can test initially at 6 weeks after the event. If you test negative at 6 weeks the likelihood is that you will test negative again at 3 months for a conclusive result.

You need to be more proactive when having sex. You're responsible for your own health so if you're having intercourse whoever is the insertive partner always has to be wearing a condom throughout. No exceptions.
