electoral vote predictions 2012
« on: October 26, 2012, 05:28:46 pm »
I hope everyone participates. Not having done a poll before, I am not really sure the rules too well and how this site works when it comes to posting a poll.

My hope is that the information gathered will show that we HIV+ people have some kind of insight in what matters in politics and policy.
The results will only show AFTER someone has voted.

Thanks!

It' a GO now again for the poll.
Sorry for the confusion. (I get confused easy these days.) :)

Is this an official poll? will the results be on CNN?

You do realize you are polling a mostly liberal group here..

your poll still needs some change however. The polls on this site doesn't allow multiple selections, so a member can't vote for the Presidental election and the Senate election and the House election. Your options are three polls in one.

Poll 1:
obama will win by less than 10 electoral votes.
romney will win by less than 10 electoral votes.
obama will win by more than 10 electoral votes.
romney will win by more than 10 electoral votes.

Poll 2:
democrats will retain power in senate.
republicans will have majority power in senate.

Poll3:
democrats will have majority in house.
republicans will retain power in house.

good luck with your poll(s) ;)

btw, I don't know who will win; but I hope Obama and the Dems, both in the House and Senate, win. Since I'm working the polls on Election Day, I've already cast my vote to help that outcome a tiny bit.

ROMNEY BIDEN 2012!

ohwut?

If Obama and Romney tie with 269 EV each, I forget the exact math but it's doable in this particular election, then the Presidency is decided in the house, with the Repubs polling very well in the house they would chose Romney. But guess who Picks the VP, The Senate....which of course would chose Biden over Ryan.

I hope Obama will win. I'm too overwhelmed by election coverage to understand the polls and predictions.  There seem to be too many polls and predictions this year but it is what it is.

It has seemed to be a tight race for a few weeks now.  Romney never seemed to have lost what he deserved to lose, based on his soulless hypocrisy.

The lefty media pundits I like are getting too screechy about the whole thing, to boot.

i think they are screcchy for the same reason you point out.

I simply cannot fathom that anyone who is 1) a woman, 2) a glbt, 3) earns under $500k, 4) non-Christian or 5) not looking for another war would vote for Romney or support the Republicans at all. Yet many of those people, against their own self-interests, will be lead like sheeple to the slaughter and pull the "R" lever in the voting booth..... well, touch the straight-R button on the screen LOL. How they can possibly make that decision is utterly beyond me and I have gotten quite screechy with some people I know. LOL

Maybe there is a lesson in all this, I dunno.

I love me my Rachel Maddow and ilk. But can the real lefties ever hope their painstaking breakdown of the lies and fipflops will shine light into the common blindness about all that.  Preaching to the converted.

I do think the Obama campaign has done a good job with the media coming right back, quickly, clearly and pithily.  And since i assume the general population sees those ads, then the message is being transmitted.  Just not received.  Or rejected.

And I suppose there is nothing much to do about low information voters.  Nor about voters who do look at all the messages, but don't have much cognitive dissonance. Go with the last thing they hear or see.  Go with the easy or reassuring message.

The only pundits screeching were the ones on the right when the polls showed Romney losing. They came up with every excuse in the book to explain away the poll numbers. The left press was quite up front in admitting Obama lost the first debate. Something the right never did examining the second and third debates, which every objective poll had Romney losing.

I just can't believe the mo's around here who support Romney. Explain yourself to Bocker and other gay members of the forums who are married that Romney/Ryan support a constitutional amendment to ban gays the right to marry.

Once the shrub stated his support for such an amendment, I decided that I could no longer reside in the US.  I think, that for those of us a little older, we remember how life has been, for us, for simply being gay.  The idea that the president, any president, would support any amendment, limiting the rights of any Americans, is simply beyond my comprehension.  Fortunately, I had other options and I cannot begin to tell you, how affirming it is to live in a county that considers me as an equal.

There is no early voting in Pennsylvania. My polling place is a mere 2 blocks away. I figure I can hobble over there without worrying about diarrhea dripping down my pant legs.

I prefer to follow Nate Silver's fivethirtyeight blog.  In 2008, he was only off by something like 4 electoral votes.  He has President Obama's chances of winning at 75%.

I just saw him on Real Time.  He said many networks like to use Gallop.  He doesn't seem to put much stock in Gallop.  And, the networks need to portray the race as very, very tight.  That brings in viewers.  And, they like to talk about a possible tie every election.  I suppose it is good to educate viewers on what would happen, in the case of a tie.  I believe the President will hold every state from 2008, except for NC and IN.

The pollsters say they've been able to account for so many having only cell phones today.  I only have a cell phone.  We got rid of our home phone, after all it did was collect dust.  Many younger folks don't have home phones.  And, if they do, they don't answer calls from family often times, not to mention unlisted numbers.

We get these in the mail from the Romney Campaign.  Evidently, they think my partner is loaded.  I can't believe how they act like $50k is no big deal.  Obama asks us for $5..lol.  The only thing we can think of as to why he gets these is that he registered as a Repub, when he turned 18.  His dad is repub, so he registered as one.  However, he soon switched to Dem.

Ps...

This thread has been so convoluted from the start due to the "computer challenged" OP (me).

Due to this, perhaps I should adjust my expectations from hoping to get 300 votes to hoping to get 30.

Almost half way there now! ;D

(i just discovered the "modify" button)
my previous post should have read 14 down, 286 to go. (not 226)
what can I say. have i driven you all nuts already?
bet you can't wait for connecticut to lose power. :)

Convoluted?  Now, this political ad is convoluted.  Well, it's many things.  Stations had to run a disclaimer, before airing it.  I am so technologically advanced that I recorded this right off my TV.

What do you think?  Will this hurt Samuel L Jackson?  ::)

I thought the same thing. I always thought Tedderz would sound more like Truman Capote. ;D

You're confusing him with me.

No, you are thinking about Missp, she's a a cross between Truman Capote and Peewee Herman. It's quite astonishing really.

Gets you hard, doesn't it. And Capote was a genius. And rich.

Anyway, I can butch it up when I need to -- remember, I'm the only one on here who urinated on a priest in a leather bar.

With your Tivo how did you even see that commercial? I fast forward through all the ads, political and otherwise.

Wow, I just checked back in.  Yeah, just got back in from pumping some iron.  ::)Do the kids still say that?  I also climbed up in a huge oak tree to get a cat down.  After that, I pulled some kids out of a well.  All in a days work for a masculine dude.  I need to start a phone sex business.  Or, did I miss that chance by about a decade?

But, believe me.  Get a few drinks in me and around some friends, and I turn into Marcus Bachmann.  ;)

Modified for spelling.
