'Black national anthem' stirs controversy for city

Quite intresting and the outcry that it is causing here in Denver.  I agree that it was the wrong venue to make that statement.

It is interesting -- I mean she was asked (or hired, I don't know if she got paid) to sing a specific song and did not.  The mayor said "he believes Marie did not intend to offend anyone or make a political statement" but I don't know how it could NOT be a political statement.  Right or wrong, at least Marie is sticking to her actions, while the mayor is trying to downplay it as some minor snafu.

I do think she was wrong - she was asked to sing one thing, and, apparently, agreed to it.  Then she did something else.

That has been the consenus (sp?) around the office.  She was asked to do something and failed to.  If she wanted to make a statement then do so in a more appropriate venue or one where you are aksed to perfrom.
