How much of a risk ??
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:11:39 am »
Had protected sex with a model who do it for money once in a while. While taking off the condom, I saw some blood near the base of penis

I took off the condom which was intact (no wear & tear) & then wiped the drops of blood near the base of the penis

Asked the girl if she was having periods or if her date is near, the answer was negative. There was no cut anywhere on my penis so the blood was her indeed

I dressed up with my clothes including undergarments & headed straight to home

Washed the penis base first with an antiseptic soap & then washed the tip of the penis separately followed by a complete wash.

The girl claimed to have taken a test few days back & told she was HIV negative

I am taking her for a test again tomorrow.

Please tell me what kind of risk I have taken here, feeling very very restless.

The most important part of what you are relating is that the head of your penis was covered during intercourse. The only confirmed means of sexually transmitting HIV is by unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. As long as you consistently use condoms for those activities you will be well covered.

Finding blood from whatever source at the base of your penis is not a risk for HIV. Just keep using a condom everytime and you will be well protected. There is no need for testing over this incident.

Thanks for the clarifications Andy, much appreciated.

Just one last question from my side, I had no sores or cuts on my penis however is it possible for the blood to reach the mucous membrane of my penis while I dressed up & reached home or during the time I washed my penis with soap?

Just a bit concerned as the girl didn't turn up for the test today even though I know there is one in a million chance of her being positive.

Thanks in advance.

No, your idea/fear of HIV traveling to the mucous membrane of your penis in that manner has absolutely no basis in HIV science.

You are worrying needlessly.

Good. Glad the exchange was helpful to you.

Keep those fresh condoms handy and use one everytime you have intercourse.

Cheers.

Back again because of yet another silly mistake I committed.

I am on a vacation & in South Africa.

Went for a massage, the lady was good at it but ultimately I ended up having protected sex with her.

Again while removing the condom I saw some vaginal fluids mixed and/or lube we used on my pubic hairs.

Went for a shower straight away, worried if those fluids might have reached the mucous membrane while bathing...I though tried my best to wash that area separately.

I know I sound like paranoid but just needed to hear that it was a NO RISK deal....terribly worried again.

Thanks in advance.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

You never had an exposure.

night,

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.

Once outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect. For this reason, you are not going to be infected by any fluids on your body that may be present while you shower regardless of whether or not they reach a mucus membrane.

Your skin is an effective barrier to hiv. As long as the head of your penis is covered during anal or vaginal intercourse, you are protected against hiv infection.

You have NOT had a risk for hiv infection.

Thanks you so much for clearing it up for me.

One last point which I would want to ask, while I was removing the condom I accidentally pinched the base of my penis, it didn't bleed however when I reached home & took a bath, I felt a little tingling sensation while applying antiseptic fluid. I checked thoroughly again & there was no visible/open cut or blood at all but just a light red spot(less than 1/2 cm). The skin looked totally intact to me & I only was able to spot this because of the tingling sensation the antiseptic gave me or else I wouldn't had been able to figure this out.

Just wanted to know if vaginal fluids while removing the condom or while taking a bath had reached there, does it pose any risk for HIV infection.

Waiting to hear from you & many thanks in advance.

Night,

Re-read reply #8. You have not had a risk for hiv infection.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER ANY OF THE CONCERNS YOU HAVE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

suffered from mild fever(99 or so) for 4 days.....the fever wasn't there all through those 4 days but came in bouts, had some heaviness in my head as well burning eyes. This was followed by mouth ulcer(have suffered from them frequently in the past) & swollen lymph nodes under chin. Feeling better now however once again my mind is full of doubts, also is saliva of a Hiv + person touching the penis base of any possible risk?

Also, are these ARS symptoms?

Please do consider that these incidents occurred in South Africa which is probably the most risky country in terms of HIV transmission/infection even if the girls were highly paid escorts, does this change the scenario.

The bottom line is that you were never at risk for HIV. That fact doesn't seem to be penetrating through your insistent fears.

Whatever symptoms you may have or have had are not HIV-related.

At this point I am going to warn  you that if you continue to return here insisting HIV is your problem, you are going to find yourself getting a Time Out from the site. HIV is not your problem whether you accept that or not. There's really nothing more we can do for you here.

Apologies for being repetitive, I know that you people answer so many questions which are more or less the same in terms of the situation & content. I am posting my last query here, I just want to be sure of ity as I am about to be with my partner in next few days. Hope you guys will address these last few points

It was protected sex with a prostitute. While having sex, I touched some liquid/fluid which was there on the bed, wasn't sure what it was as the light in the room was very dim ....it looked like some cream/lotion but not sure what it was, I just dried it then.

The intercourse lasted for 10 minutes or so, after that I tried to peel the condom but it didn't came off as I wasn't able to grip it properly however in this process I just pinched the skin near the penis base. There was no visible blood, not even when I went to wash the penis in the washroom. I just didn't see any blood but when I returned home & put antiseptic liquid to check, it stinged a bit....no blood or substantial mark though.

I just have 2 last questions

1) What if the stuff I touched before I had sex was semen/pre cum infected with HIV? Does this pose a risk?

2) What if I pinched my skin deep enough with some of the precum on my nails while removing the condom (worst case scenario as I didn't see any fluid/precum near the condom base nor did I see any visible blood later on, but assuming the worst case scenario). Does this pose a risk?

Thanks you.

Neither of the other details you are tossing into the mix changed the science-based reality that you were not at risk for HIV.

There is no need for further concern on your part nor any need for testing.

And now I am going to give you that 28 day Time Out which you were warned about. Don't make the mistake of trying to get around it by creating a new name for yourself. We'll spot that right off and it will get you permanently banned from the site.

Doubts and fears notwithstand you were not at risk. You do not have HIV and there is no need for testing. Get on with your life.

Just logging in to say that I wasn't keeping well for last 3 weeks & finally went for a test 9 weeks after the incident which I suspected regarding the infection. The result is negative (posted below)

*************************************************************************************
SERUM SCREENING FOR ANTI-HIV (1+2) ANTIBODIES (INDIRECT EIA TECHNIQUE)

RESULT : NEGATIVE ( 0.088 )

NEGATIVE :
0.00 – 0.293

EQUIVOCAL :
0.293 – 0.321

POSITIVE :
> 0.321

INTERPRETATION :
1. A negative result implies that no Anti HIV – II antibodies have been detected in the sample by this method. This means that either the patient has not been exposed to HIV-I or HIV-II infection or the sample has been tested during the “WINDOW PHASE” (before the development of detectable levels of antibodies)
2. A positive result suggests the possibilities of HIV-I and / or HIV-II infection. However these results must be verified by a confirmatory test (IFA / WESTERN BLOT I-II) before pronouncing the patient positive for HIV-I and / r HIV-II infection.

*************************************************************************************
The illness(which was pumped many folds further by anxiety I believe) of last 3 weeks made me go for this & finally I can make myself free from the unwarranted fear & apprehensions.

Thanks a lot Andy, Ann & Rapidrod  for your support & guidance, much appreciated.

Nighthawk,

You are conclusively hiv negative as you never had a risk in the first place.

You do not have hiv.

Thanks Ann.

So I don;t need a 13 week test ?

Are 9 weeks good enough keeping in mind that I was ill for last 3 weeks(fever & headache)

Had it been ARS, I should had tested positive(I read at a reputed site that 2 weeks post ARS are good enough to be conclusive)......also, can I start having unprotected sex with my partner now?

How could you possibly get HIV when you had NO risk?

Nighthawk,

As you have been repeatedly told, you have not had a risk for hiv infection. You are conclusively hiv negative.

You should only be having unprotected intercourse with your partner if you have BOTH had complete sexual health check-ups and do not have any STIs, including but not limited to hiv.
