Really hot weather like this makes me wilt, but believe it or not I actually went out and ran errands (like my 6th visit to my ASO case manager...) from 9 AM until noon, but at least that wasn't the height of the heat. I bought some lovely peonies!

Hey now... I went out solo to see Tree of Life this afternoon in the sweltering sun, braving the urine stench of the subway no less. Horribly arousing journey full of swarthy Italian boys in wife beaters. 'tis the season and all... followed up with a jaunt to Society Hill Wine Merchants for a bottle of Cahors and some port to use in the demi-glace sauce that will be lovingly served with my roast squab tomorrow.

Of course, Carlos will be coming over.

The transients downtown under the railroad tracks near the Sally eat Squab. The stun them with poorly made sling shots then ring their necks and then roast them over a barrel of burning trash. I heard it is quite good.

HAve fun with Carlos.

1) I even had to cut the head off that bird myself... twas that fresh!

2) like you actually know the cultural significance of that flatware. Arne Jacobsen, 1957 (also featured in Stanley Kubrick's 2001 in a short scene at the revolving space station).  However I believe the cutlery was originally designed specifically for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen before being marketed to the public.  Unfortunately I only own one place setting because I've never been so fortunate as to be a Stepford Queer with a bridal registry.

Marry me?   ;D

You know, as I was slaving away with my chic Dahlstrom Hackman cast iron dutch oven and pondering how utterly awesome it was that I included wild boar prosciutto with the seared brussels sprouts, I thought how odd it was that I didn't have a partner to prepare magnificent dishes for on a nightly basis, preferably with a larger kitchen than the one I have, which greatly resembles something you would find on a cut-rate third world yacht (my useable counter space measures a mere 27" x 17").

Then I remembered that most vile, nasty cunts end up as eternal spinsters and threw back another glass of Cahors.

btw, my next culinary endeavor will be the mastery of steak au poivre (a personal long-standing favorite of mine... WAY before the Balthazar/Pastis craze I might add). I snagged an aged strip steak at the butcher's when I picked up the squab, and I have enough demi-glace left to make the sauce.

I can pan-sear a mean Chilean sea bass. Not to be confused with a roasted whole branzini sea bass which requires knowing how to debone -- that I have not mastered, though I've seen it done properly and could possibly attempt it.

Congrats Will......  quitting cigarettes was the hardest thing I have ever done.  Putting down the booze was a cakewalk in comparison.  Keep it up -- 1 hour at a time.

Hmm, I might need to get that for reinforcement.

But really what spurred it was mom had a pretty big setback with her lung cancer last week. Plus I always felt like an idiot standing outside the Chemotherapy office smoking a cig  :-\  It's fuckin stupid.

He didn't say two weeks ----
He said oxygen in maybe two years if I don't quit -
But, I have been reading one of the other threads and I think I can try aqua liv and cure all the damage smoking has caused.  That's what I'm countin on.

But, seriously, I have cut back --- down from one pack a day to about 14 a day and I do have the book, that I have started reading.  Hopefully, I will be out from under the cigarette addiction before my next follow up visit with the doc on July 11th.

But, this Sunday is the Stonewall Parade and celebration in Wilton Manors - so, that may present a challenge.

Yeah - I definitely understand that feeling.  I remember about two years ago being at the urgent care center and the nurse was bringing me in a nebulizer to use because I had bronchitis - I asked her if I could step outside before I started using it so I could have a quick smoke..... obviously, she said "You gotta be kiddin - and hell no"

In addition to the health effects, I have already figured out that quitting would save me $2,190 a year (which would be enough for me to buy Ms. P a fairly nice engagement ring  ;D )

Actually, a friend just bought a house in the manors three blocks from the parade route and the main strip --- so, he is having a pre-parade pool party (and most of the people that will be there are over 45 - so, I will be the twinkie of the bunch)  --- They are for the most part bears and I am honey --- so I am wanted, so there, ha ha ha   :P

I wish you would just marry me already  ;)

Just stop smoking.  My mother was a smoker for 20+ years and after quitting she's had numerous tests on her lungs which all say they are perfectly healthy.

The thing that made her quit was waking up in the middle of the night coughing her head off.  She got tired of poor sleep and she says it's absolutely the best thing she's ever done.  She did it cold turkey and now absolutely hates the smell of cigarette smoke.

I quit cold turkey about 11 years ago and stayed quit for 4 years - then went back to it... it will end up being cold turkey this time to - I almost put them down completely the other day.  I see myself being done with them within a week or two.

Catherine Deneuve, age 67, is a longtime cigarette smoker and has expressed her frustration with the increasing bans on smoking. During a press conference held at a hotel in Madrid in March 2011, she was told to put out her cigarette and refused by saying she would pay the fine instead. “I think it is all very excessive,” Deneuve told reporters.

Have a book sitting on the table called The Easy Way to Stop Smoking - my boss says that everyone she knows who has read it, has been able to quit.....

The one by Allan Carr? I read that and it worked - but only when I fell asleep reading it. I could never get through more than four or five pages before it would knock me out like a light. I'd wake up and light up, but hey, I didn't smoke when I was asleep. ::)

Yep - that's the book - and surprisingly it is having the same effect on me (YAWN.....); It is written just a bit too too basic.  I'm thinking about using my cigarette lighter to burn it.  But, I will try to plug through it.  Oh, and the boss who gave it to me - still smokes - so, I'm kinda doubting that it really is "the easy way to quit smoking."

Thanks Bock. Going on my 3rd day, it's literal hell. I've gone through 2 bags of chips, 2 tubs of dip, 6 sweet rolls, 4 packs of gum, all today, and its not even dinner time yet. But eating is the only thing keeping me from smoking.

I walked away from a $300/day 3 year coke habit years ago, and that was a cake walk. This is pure hell.

Anyways,, In other news, 102 here as I look out at my Dr.Pepper Temperature guage. The farm Report said we could go to 107 in the next couple of days.

Congratulations on not smoking Will . I quit the week before Thanksgiving . I was smoking two packs a day but managed to do it cold turkey after trying so many times I forget . I did gain 10 lbs but that's OK with me .

Three hunny for 3 years?   I'd call that a hobby!

I had a similar experience at 19 with crack.  It was $500 on a good day, nothing on a bad one... I only had 9 months of successful using before someone threw rehab in my face.  Then it took me about 2 years to kick my habit.   I was amazed when I found out in rehab that others actually shared during their use.   I never shared, not even once.

Good job with the three days...
