Insurance
« on: May 13, 2012, 09:55:54 pm »
So I get insurance through my company like so many do. I am in real fear that if I were to change jobs or my company changed ins. companies I would be screwed. Any advise on the "would if" or "when" should happen. I think you can get coverage through welfare but most working people dont qualify for that....
If I started with a new large company, would i fall under their group coverage or would the pre-existing apply?

In the U.S. there are rules on this which state that as long as you don't have a lapse in coverage greater than I believe 60 days, pre-existing conditions are covered.  If not, you may have to wait a certain period of time before the new insurance starts covering it, or perhaps they might not at all.   When switching jobs, you are offered something called cobra to keep your old insurance for awhile until you find the new job and/or insurance.  If Obamacare survives, all of that will go away of course.  Insurance would be available to everyone beginning in 2014 with no pre-existing condition clauses.  Most with an income under the federal poverty level would qualify for Medicaid.
