The pain is gone!
« on: June 03, 2007, 04:03:08 pm »
These last eight days have been annoying to say the least.Ive had some type of virus in the back of my mouth, herpes related,I forget the exact words my doc used. You could see the ulcerations with a flashlight and every swallow was painfull.     Eating was no fun either, but great for the diet. I started valtrex about two days into this episode and completed the dose today.    So it lasted exactly eight days, normally my shingles or this type thing last about 12 or 13 days,so maybe the Valtrex helped even though I should have started it earlier.4 days less of this pain and Im happy so maybe it was the Valtrex that helped.Has Valtrex or any of the herpes drugs helped anyone here?I hope so,I know it works like hiv meds in that it prevents the virus from reproducing by blocking an enzyme somewhere along the way.

Absolutely !! In 2003, my mouth and lips looked like someone ran a miniature road grader through it. Terrible sores. Also had esophageal thrush at the time. So, I was also on Diflucan, besides Valtrex ( which worked miracles in a relatively short period of time) ,  also had just finished Prednisone and was beginning the antiretroviral. As far as the Valtrex blocking enzymes, I am not of the scientific mind, so I can't comment on that. All I know is, it worked very well, and I have not had any further problems since that time.

Glad to hear that things are going better for you. Make sure to follow those prescriptions !!

I know exactly what you mean. I also had a lot of difficulty, not only eating, but also drinking fluid. Felt like I was chewing on glass, with a constant upper chest heartburn type feeling. Every swallow was painful...

I also started eating quite a bit !!! Enjoy the food !!
