Smart Pills That Track When You’ve Taken Your Meds
« on: August 02, 2012, 12:14:19 pm »
I saw this at Gizmodo http://gizmodo.com/5930621/fda-approves-the-first-smart-pills-that-can-keep-track-of-when-youve-taken-your-meds and I think that HIV meds should be the first to get this tech. HIV meds are so expensive that adding a few dollars to the cost of each pill will be priceless when measured against the benefit. Just imagine an app that alarms when you actually forget to take your meds.

I don't see how a pill will know if you forgot to take your pills....first you said it was a pill then it was an app.....anyway I will continue to use my stone age method...time for bed...time for pills.

.first you said it was a pill then it was an app.....
if you would have glanced at either of the really short articles ;), you would have seen that it's a micro-device on your pill, a patch on your arm to receive the signal from the pill and an app that uses the patch to determine if the pill has been taken and then notifies you or your doctor.

while it's an interesting idea, I wonder how much more expensive it would make the medications though? a microchip on every pill, a supply of patches (that you have to remember to wear) and the use of a smart phone and phone account. I seriously doubt Medicare/Medicaid would pay for any of this  ;D

It may be good if compliance is an issue, but with time release technology and 1 or 2 times a day dosing its not an issue for me to be compliant.  would we as a society benefit from research data on dosing compliance?    I think this technology would be good for pain medication as it has a high abuse rate and diversion.  But it is alot of big brother.

I think I need an elecric shot to remind me.
He,He. I use my Cell phone alarm and its sooo anoying!!!!!!!!that I switch it off with a slam, and I purposly leave my meds for later just to spite the silly alarm.

I know. I need a simple reminder, an alarm that doesnt INSIST for a whole minute.
A simple PEEP PEEP will do .
We all hate being forced to do something, and my cell phone alarm is very forceful.
The trick is to use a simple alarm that just beeps a few times and then goes quiet.
I know now- 9 yrs later.
