Is it possible to immigrate due to being POZ?
« on: July 18, 2015, 01:25:18 pm »
Hello, I'm new to this forum, if this isn't the right place to post this question please let me now and I would remove it.
I've been positive since 2013, I'm under control and well, everything's been good. Before I was diagnosed I had so many plans to travel the world and actually immigrating to some other country. I had the opportunity for studying abroad but my biggest concern was my meds, I'm in a program where I can get them for free but I have to assist to all my appointments, so sadly I wasn't able to do it since I had to be coming back every two months to get my meds and that would have been very expensive.
Meds are expensive also, and I don't really got the money to buy them so I wonder, is there anyway I can apply for medical assistance or any kind of insurance while studying or living in other country?

I would really appreciate if you can give me information about it.
Thank you so much

Thank you!
I think USA, Europe (France, England, Portugal) or Brazil. And well, I want to apply for a job but it requires me to stay there from six to twelve months...

I am an American that lives in Thailand.  So living and working is possible though you have to put some extra work / research into any move.

If you study in the US in a proper university, you are actually required to get medical insurance.  The European countries that you mentioned all have universal healthcare to my knowledge, which if you immigrate legally should cover you.  In both cases, you should probably check out what if any restrictions there may be for foreign students.

In Brazil you get meds for free, just bring enough with you to take as you spend a good month filling out forms, getting your local labs,  ID appointments, etc, before getting the first supply.

Immigration here is like in US: either you can come under working or student visa or get married to a Brazilian citizen, those are the only ways to be legally working and living here. Tourist visas are like in US too: you can stay for 6 months straight, tops, and you are not allowed to legally work.

out of the countries you mention, i think the US will be the toughest place to live and receive your meds, if free is the deciding factor. i am an american living in mexico and the process is not too bad but you would want to have 3 months of meds on hand. i would recommend that anywhere you choose to relocate. start hoarding now or tell your doctor about your need for 3-4 months of meds for planned travels. even though there is universal healthcare, that does not mean you can just show up and get meds for free in those countries. you would normally arrive on a tourist visa, apply for a work or resident visa {a 2 month process}, and then apply for the social services, normally one day in most countries. i don't know of any country that welcomes tourist visa holders into their government healthcare system and becoming legit resident in a foreign country will take 2-3 months. there are also a lot of financial requirements involved with migration.

i haven't lost all my marbles, but there is a hole in the bag.
