Dan~~ I love you but why isn't soul food on the list? That's ethnic or is that what you meant by African? Half the stuff you have on the list, I have never tried, so I really can't vote. But am serious about soul food being added to the list.....Just saying.....

How is soul food "ethnic"? You could say it's regional but I don't see it tied to a particular ethnicity.

True, "soul food" is tied to a region and that region is tied to slavery and that slavery is tied to an ethnic group and that ethnic group is the creator of soul food pure and simple. African Americans turned what the white man wouldn't eat into pure ambrosia.

How come north-american food is not on the list? Is it not considered ethnic? Or are there just too many of those "restaurants" around the world to make it noteworthy? I know the food served at these places is far from gourmet quality, but come, that shouldn't be a reason to hide your preferences!

I wouldn't change Puerto Rican food for any of those! Food here is an art well taught by a few incredible great cooking grandmothers and those who still have them alive are blessed. Write down those recipes because a unique style of cooking dies every time one of these old ladies pass away. I care to mention; pasteles, arroz con gandules, pionones, tostones con mojito, arepas, and many more foods! I have no idea how to translate some of these. Maybe Philly knows because he's been to the island quite few times and Christmas is the best time for some good eating! I'll check out the names in English at some other time...

I'm glad to see you didn't list British food as an option. I couldn't make a choice though. I narrowed my favourite ethnic foods down to; Mexican, Indian, Vietnamese, Italian, and whatever Middle Eastern country Falafels and Shwarma are from...

Thai, probably. I love ethnic food of all kinds. There's a Caribbean restaurant near me that has a lunch buffet, and I can gain three pounds in 30 minutes in there.

Hi Catman. My exBF knows how to make pasteles (takes forever it seems) and he's eaten arepas he says. He says he'll have to ask relatives about pionones. He grew up in the mainland U.S. I'm not usedto the flavor of the pasteles. I found it a little strange but maybe I have to try it more than twice

That's why I said "write down those recipes". Not everyone is skilled (like granny) to make a delicious tasting pastel!

Although I voted Thai, I still love good "Soul Food" which was not an allowed category. Soul Food is nothing more than good southern cooking but is as much an ethnic food as those listed. It evolved on our shores from the various cultures and when prepared correctly is very unique. Still love a good plate of greens when well prepared as the next person.
