Another warning about Boston
« on: June 08, 2009, 08:18:14 pm »
When visiting Boston, take care if you are a fan of the NY Yankees. Boston is known for the hardcore fans of the Red Sox, and wearing Yankee apparel could be considered dangerous at times. Just wanted to give people a heads up. Awhile back, someone was hit and killed with a vehicle over a dispute about team loyalty. So, if you are a fan of the Yanks, it might be wise to leave the shirt or cap or whatever at home.

Can I wear my Mets cap?

Maybe I better not.  I might get run over by a bus ! ;)

To the best of my knowledge, having lived my entire life in New England, home of Red Sox Nation, the Mets are okay for apparel. As long as it isn't the Yanks, its okay, lol.

I think this warning is a bit overblown.  I worked a block from Fenway Park for many years and lived about 3 blocks for a number of years also.  I will agree that a Yankee fan will have a hard time with jeers and taunts, but in all my years near Fenway, I never heard of any serious incidents before or after Yankee games -- where it is safe to assume a large number of Yankee paraphanalia can be seen walking around.
So, although I don't know why anyone would WANT to do so, you can wear Yankee stuff without fear of being killed.

If they can't spell "socks" what makes you think they can read a Yankees shirt?

;D I hope you can run fast, Basquo! hehehehe! ;)

This thread reminds me of how I never wear my Liverpool (football club) baseball hat when I know I'm going to be in the company of Man U supporters. While I don't feel in fear for my physical well-being, I sure fear having the micky taken out of me! ;D

I'll admit the threat is somewhat questionable, but better safe than sorry. That, and its kind of funny too. Also, never underestimate the danger of drunk people in large groups!

Aw, I'm just joking! I've already gotten an invitation to attend a Red Sox game while we're up there.

Not just Man U fans Ann, but most football fans take the micky out of you guys these days. Oh, how the once mighty have fallen. Apart from the odd European victory, the trophy cabinet at Anfield is full of rusty old trophies.  ;)

Go the mighty Gunner's!!!

You should do it -- if for no other reason than to experience Fenway.  It's a fantastic old baseball park.
I really don't like watching baseball, unless I'm seeing it live -- living so close to Fenway for a few years made it quite easy.

I know, it's embarrassing! Mind you, they didn't do all that  bad this past season! They're still in the Premiership, after all.

So you're an Arsenal fan, eh? I good mate of mine use to be into the Gunners in a big way (still is, but he move off the Rock) and I used to tease him by asking how "Our-smell" was doing - and then I'd run like hell. ;D

Can we please keep this on-topic?  Maybe by posting some pics of naked footballers in Boston?  ;D

Ok, I have no idea if this man plays sports or not but what the hell, what Basquo wants Basquo gets...even though he is only half naked he looks fine to me, and I'm sure he would fit in well with the Red Sox and even get a few 'Home Runs" .. ;D

The Red Sox are playing at home on Monday and Tuesday during AMG.  There are a small number of seats available.  I have always wanted to see Fenway too.  Who is interested in going?

I think this is a great idea.  I noticed from the agenda that Monday is a free day.  I checked the arrivals/deparature thread.  Most of us are leaving Tuesday.  So Monday would be good.  do you know, is it a day or evening game?

will there be a scrimmage?  Will they take their clothes off?

If i thought there would be the remotest chance to go and see a real live baseball game I would sell my soul to get there..I love baseball but have to be content with catching up with some old games shown every few months..not a game that is covered here on TV, and we don't have Sky TV.

I'd like to go see a game if we could swing it on our schedule.  We might have a trip to Salem conflicting on that day.
