An abscess the size of a cricket ball (baseball size) on my butt. OUCH!!!
After spending a few hours in emergency this morning I was admitted to RPA (the Royal Prince Alfred hospital) this evening. The abscess is too large and 'solid' for them to operate on at the moment. I'm on an antibiotic drip for 24 hours and they'll reassess at that time.
I've not been able to sit all day, and lying on my right cheek is not much better. just had pain killers though, so should be happy again soon.
On the bright side, the guy opposite is hot. straight, but hot. northern english too my favourite

Good Lord, baseball size? I'm sorry to hear you're in the hospital. Hopefully you're all better soon. Morphine never seemed to do anything for me. I'm not sure what they're giving you. Hope you're not in pain.
Do you think this is HIV related or just one of those things anyone gets? Either way, hope they get ya all fixed up soon.
-
Well look on the upside, babe - at least you're not in RNS, Hornsby or Nepean. :)
Hope you get well soon, I'll send you a filthy SMS to ease the pain.

Sorry to hear that Steve! I hope your pain in the ass goes away soon and is replaced by a nice pain the ass.
Get well soon and keep us posted, mister!

My very elderly cat Phlea (17 y/o) is currently recovering from an abscess on her cheek (face, not ass), so she sends her commiserations. We both hope you're feeling better soon.

Good Lord :o
Your entire butt isn't much bigger than a baseball, that sucker must be huge!
I hope the antibiotics do their trick and you can get out of there soon. Get well soon little buddy!

You could be on your left check then, with nothing to look at, you'd really be up a creek.
Merry Christmas.....robt

i am grateful robert. if i had to turn the other cheek, i'd be staring at a wall all day.
the junior doc just did his rounds and said i'll need another 24 hours of intravenous antibiotics at least. grrrrrr. this is dull and tedious.
amuse me world.

Do they allow wanks in hospital? That's a good way to keep you busy for a good 2 or 3 minutes.

I have great porn collection on my laptop too, Cliff. the cannula in my right wrist might be a problem though. it hurts.

The downside of not being ambidextrous. Shame. Has your hot ward mate had his bed bath yet?

We have a shower in the corner and have to shower ourselves. i could always offer to assist him. if only his girlfriend would let him out of her sight.

Wow Steve,
All I can say is, OUCH!
At least the eye candy is pleasing.
I hope you are feeling better in short order and your bum is back in action soon. ;)
Try using your left hand, it may feel like its someone else helping out.
HUGS,

Free at last. Free at last.
What a relief. I'm so glad to be back home, cuddled up with the kitty kats. They lanced the abscess this morning and sent me on my merry way early this afternoon.
That was the most bizarre (and some of the most painful) 4 days I will ever have. I went from an early morning 1km swim on Monday to excruciating pain and a hospital bed in a matter of hours. I've missed a dinner with a group of people I've not seen since primary school, a 48th birthday celebration, and today a 40th birthday lunch.
Whinge as I may about my last 4 days, the saddest part of this annus horribilus for my family was the passing of my uncle last night. He was a great man and I'm really saddened that I did not get to say goodbye. Am thinking of you, Bob. RIP.

Glad to hear they lanced the bugger.
Condolences on the passing of your uncle.
Vale Bob.

Why would you jump to such conclusions? (and we complain about others stigmatizing us and thinking we're dirty aids whores). Quite frankly, I'm totally pissed off with you and your response.
I never mentioned having sex or wanting sex. Quite frankly, it is the last thing on my mind. I was just grateful that of the 3 other men in my room, one was handsome and pleasing to the eye.
For the record, not that it is anyone's business, I've not had sex for quite some time. This particular staph infection I had started while I was spending a nice relaxing Christmas with my family.
According to the immunologist at the hospital, this has nothing to do with HIV (my cd4 count was about 800 when bloods were last done in mid December). The most likely scenario is that it started with a mosquito bite on the left cheek of my butt, and then somehow, most likely through picking/touching my nose or that of my niece or nephew, and then scratching the mosquito bite, I have introduced staph to 'open' wound. I think they call it, bad luck.
But, thanks for your thoughts and opinions, Madbrain. They say a lot about you.
Matty, thanks for the condolences.

Hey Steve, I'm sorry to hear about all the things this has caused you to miss, and I'm even more sorry to hear that it made you miss being able to say goodbye to someone who obviously meant a lot to you. You have my heartfelt condolences.

Hey Stevie, Merry Christmas. I'm sorry you went through this awfulness during the holidays, but I am ever so happy to hear it's over now. Thinking of you.

Sorry you weren't able to say goodbye to your uncle.

It was merely an attempt at a joke. Sometimes in bad situations, having a little laugh can help with the pain and grieving. I apologize if the joke was in bad taste and if the timing wasn't the best.
As to why I made the joke in the first place, just read the first word of your subject line and then how your first post in this thread begins, and perhaps you can see how there could be an alternate reading about the cause of your unfortunate health problem.
I hope that you make a full recovery, and I am sincerely sorry about your uncle.

Fearless,
So very sorry to hear about the passing of your Uncle. I hope you recover fully from the staph.
I hope 2011 is a great year for you. Maybe you got the bad stuff out of the way early!
