ouch..again
« on: February 28, 2010, 09:42:53 pm »
so...i got on a dirt bike again today (2nd time). i was bored at home, called up my homie and asked him if he wanted to ride. 2 hours later im whizzing through dirt and weeds clinging on for dear life.

and how sweet life is : )

once again i was scared. but i got over it. then i hit the trails. this was exciting. new turns, new textures, new things. unfortunately im too new and crashed...HARD. i have a huge bruise on my leg and im missing parts of my skin. i also fucked up my hand and managed to burn myself. someone totally forgot to mention the muffler is piping fucking hot (plus i left my gloves at home - big mistake).

ill post the pics when i get back from the gym. bathing was painful. i havent had open wounds in over a year and ill tell you...i feel ALIVE. after all the pain i got back on the bike and continued to ride until the sun went down. ill have to borrow this next line from dre --  today was a good day.

best,
d

   D,

I got my first dirtbike when I was 10 years old.  Some of my most enjoyable moments came from those days when I rode/raced.   Maybe one day I'll slap down some money for a scanner and post some of my pics.

You really do get a sense of freedom.  Hey D, did you ride anything like this?:

ahhh yes, the motorcycle years. I had a red Kawasaki KD-80 when I was in my teens. It was an entry level poor excuse for a dirt bike, but it was fun.

I received many muffler burns on the inside of my left arm from reaching back and trying to get twigs, etc... out of the chain.

Although I am an only child, my parents had 2 other children.  One of them decided once that we should rent Suzuki 350's and ride in Sacramento traffic.  I had never ridden a bike before.  There were no safety gear with the rentals but the bike rental place decided I should take a couple of laps around the back lot before riding out in rush hour traffic.

During my first lap, it landed on top of me and I had 3rd degree burns on both of my legs.  My parents other child left me at the rental place.  Being a minor, I could not get medical care without my parents, who were not in Sacramento.  The bike rental people sent me away to find a doctor and the first few turned me away for being only 17.  I finally found one called Dr. Boozer who treated me.  It took years for the scars to go away.  My parents other child had to replace the transmission in his Corvette because I trashed the first and second gears.

Reminds me of a 60's song:
"First gear, it's all right, Second gear, it's all right, Third gear, it's all right... goin faster, all right, Honda , Honda goin faster faster, Honda Honda goin faster faster"

D, you are very brave to go on a dirt bike twice   ;D  Have the best day
Michael

so...i got on a dirt bike again today (2nd time). ...

managed to burn myself. someone totally forgot to mention the muffler is piping fucking hot ...

Many of us discover first-hand how hot a muffler can be the first time we ride a motorcycle or dirtbike.   Some of us continue to discover this fact every time we get on a bike.  I did when I lived for 10 months in a farm house 4 - 5 miles from the town.   The hair finally grew back on that calf after a few years.

I'd never ride a motorized bike of any kind in New Orleans since car drivers universally ignore them.  A bicycle is much safer for me.  My sloth-like reflexes have a few more milliseconds to avoid a mishap.
