SOY DE BARCELONA Y TENGO 28 AÑOS. ESTE VERANO MANTUVE RELACIONES SEXUALES SIN PROTECCIÓN (VAGINALES) CON UNA CHICA MUY PROMISCUA, DESCONOZCO SI TIENE O NO EL VIH. DURANTE ESTE PERIODO HE TENIDO MUCHOS SINTOMAS, NO PROVOCADOS POR EL ESTRESS DEL VIH PORQUE NI SI QUIERA ME LO HABIA PLANTEADO. CUANDO ME DI CUENTA DE QUE PODÍA ESTAR INFECTADO FUI A HACERME LA PRUEBA A UN LABORATORIO. BUENO EN REALIDAD ME HIZE DOS: UNA DE ANTICUERPOS Y UNA DE ANTIGENO, LAS DOS FUERON NEGATIVAS. ESTO FUE A LAS 7 SEMANAS DE LA CONDUCTA DE RIESGO. ME GUSTARIA SABER QUE PROBABILIDADES HAY DESPUES DE ESTAS DOS PRUEBAS NEGATIVAS A LAS 7 SEMANAS DE QUE ME DE POSITIVO EN LA PRUEBA A LOS 3 MESES.

UN SALUDO.

Hola Sander,

Suerte.

Sander,

Please read the Spanish-version Testing Lesson ( http://www.aidsmeds.com/espanol/lecciones/AnalisisDelVIH.htm ) and the Spanish-version Transmission Lesson ( http://www.aidsmeds.com/espanol/lecciones/Transmision.htm )

Although your seven week test is unlikely to change, you do need to confirm your negative result at three months. In the UK and most of Europe, that means twelve weeks. I'm fully expecting your three month test result to also be negative.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Sander,

It would be unusual for a seven week negative result to change, especially when the test was a bundled ELISA and p24 test.

Please try to relax.

MUCHAS GRACIAS POR TUS CONSEJOS ANN, ERES UNA GRAN PERSONA.

TE QUERIA HACER 2 PREGUNTAS:

1.- TODAVIA NO ENTIENDO PORQUE MI ANALISTA Y MI DR. ME DIJERON QUE NO DEBIA REPETIRME LA PRUEBA. ME PARECE QUE ES UNA IRRESPONSABILIDAD POR SU PARTE. NO CREES?

2.- TU HAS CONOCIDO ALGUN CASO DE POSITIVO A LAS 13 SEMANAS DESPUES DE UN NEGATIVO A LAS 7 SEMANAS?.

POR FAVOR RESPONDEME. CONFIO EN TU SINCERIDAD.

Sander,

You can rely on what your doctor told you concerning the tests. However, here at AIDSmeds we have to go by the official window period, which is three months.

You will have to decide for yourself what to do. It is unlikely that your three month result would be different from your seven week result. If you want to be 100% certain, test again. If you trust your doctor, don't.

Sander,

Symptoms or the lack of symptoms mean nothing when it comes to hiv infection. Only a test will inform you of your hiv status.

Touching your glands (ganglios) to see if they are swollen can MAKE them swell and keep them swollen. Do not touch your ganglios! Hands off!

It is unlikely that your test results will change. Seriously.

Seriamente.

¡Apesadumbrado sobre mi español crappy, culpa Babelfish!

Usted será OK.

Sander,

You may have misunderstood what you read in I Just Tested Poz. There are no people in that forum who tested negative at six weeks and then tested positive later. There are some who test regularly, but this is not the same.

You are just going to have to trust us that your result is not likely to change. Try to relax in the meantime and stay busy to keep your mind away from hiv.

Buena suerte,

Tim Horn

As the others have said, your result is very encouraging and VERY HIGHLY LIKELY NOT TO CHANGE.  You need to keep yourself busy and distracted over the next few weeks before your final test.  Stay away from the Internet if you have to.  Best wishes.

Because the CDC in their recommendations speaks of a period window until of 6 months when scientific and medical documents say that with the present tests the period window is of 4 - 6 weeks?

I do not believe that an exaggerated period window can stop the advance of the VIH, but the adoption of prevention measures and the sexual education.

Sander,

Actually, the CDC's official window period is three months, not six months.  Six months is for people who are on chemotherapy, regular IV drug users, or have severely compromised immune systems.  In other words, a person would know if they belong to that special group of people who may on occasion seroconvert late.

You're right that the overwhelming majority of people seroconvert within 4-6 weeks using today's tests.  Asi que, no te preocupes, ok?

I have all glands (ganglia) of my body very inflamed, mainly the axillary ones. They hurt to me enough. To the week of the possible infection I was admitted the hospital with tonsilitis, gingivitis and 105 of temperature. Hard 5 days. Later I have been with fatigue and eruptions in the skin. When I thought that it could have VIH… already had passed me all this!

The ganglia (glands) have followed inflamed all this time and now they have become painful. I want to be optimistic, I have a negative test to the 7 weeks for antibodies and another one for antigen p24, but I begin to think that it does not serve to me don't mention it.

Sander,

When a person has an illness from being infected with hiv (some don't), the illness is what you feel when the body is making hiv antibodies. Hiv antibodies are what the test look for.  You tested six weeks after the beginning of your illness and if your illness had anything to do with hiv, you test would have been positive.

Your test results are highly unlikely to change.

Thanks for your answers. What it worries more to me now it is that the laboratories that tested to me have mistaken with my result.

You know some case? that a test of a false negative by error in the laboratories? Me I did them in a deprived laboratory, and have listened that sometimes errors by kits of defective tests or errors of identification of the blood samples happen.

Sander,

Hiv tests are not complicated tests. They are easy to use and simple to perform. There is also a control built into them and false negatives only happen when the test has been done too soon.

Hiv tests are reliable. Spain is not a backward country, even if your clinic is in a poor area. You can trust your hiv test.

You do need to confirm your test at three months but I am sure that test will also be negative.

Many, Many, Thank you very much Ann! You are the only person whom it tranquilizes to me. With respect to my laboratory, I believe that it is good. nonalive in a poor zone, all the opposite… in addition is very pretty. If someday you want to come, you are invited.

Thank you very much by everything.

Sander,

PA 457 is a new antiretroviral (anti-hiv medication) and I believe it is still undergoing clinical trials. It is only for people who are hiv positive and already taking medication. It has nothing to do with you or your situation as you are not likely to test hiv positive.

Sander,

We have talked about this. Your previous test was a very good indication of your status, but only a three month test is conclusive. The test result you receive in one week will be conclusive.

I'm expecting that result to also be negative.

Sander,

Yes, that is correct. It is unlikely that you would seroconvert late if you are not on chemotherapy, anti-rejection drugs following organ transplant or inject street drugs every day for many years.

Sander,

Your twelve week test results tell us that you are hiv and hepatitis A, B, and C negative. You do not have hiv or hepatitis.

The test results you are worried about have nothing to do with hiv. Please continue to work with your doctor to find out what the problem is.

You are hiv negative. Please protect your negative hiv status by using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions.
