Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Hello,

i have a question regarding the risk of an encounter of mine.
I had unprotected oral sex with a girl. While licking her i noticed a slightly odd taste from her.
I am not sure whether this was the taste of blood. I did not notice any blood during the encounter which was only fingering and licking her.
4 days later i got an angina and penicillin to encounter it. Now about 3,5 weeks later i noticed a swollen lymphnode on my upper
arm just above the bizeps. As far as my whole condition goes i am feeling fine.
But my mind is now playing tricks on me to be honest.

Appreciate your opinion on this.

Hi,

thanks for the quick reply. One last thing that keeps bothering me. What if small amounts of menstrual blood may have caused the odd taste i recognized and those small amounts may have gotten into my mouth?

Not a single case of HIV has been fully documented to have been transmitted through cunnilingus. Even if menstrual blood is present, saliva contains over a dozen elements that render HIV incapable of infecting.

This was absolutely not an HIV risk.

Sorry to bother again...

Considering the angina 4 days after the encounter and a swollen lymphnode on my arm 3 weeks later would you recommend getting tested?
Interesting thing is that obviously many symptoms occur when one is beginning to think about the situation and starts to worry about it.

Neither of those symptoms are HIV-specific.

That "interesting thing" you have observed about "many new symptoms" is what unfortunately occurs frequently when one gets into an HIV jitters mindset.

You did not have a risk for HIV and there is no need for testing. If your symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor. They have nothing to do with HIV.

Well, correlation does not equal causation. Or, as Andy puts it, feelings are not facts.

If your description of the sexual event is accurate (meaning you did not omit having had unprotected vaginal or anal sex) then there was absolutely no risk for HIV in the situation.

Also, you make a salient point about "symptoms" starting when you begin to worry. HIV panic is a real thing, and the body can produce all sorts of physical manifestations when your anxiety level is high.

The science, however, is adamant. Cunnilingus simply does not transmit HIV.

Hi again,

for my own (maybe temporary) peace of mind i just did a rapid combo test (ak/p24) in my local healthcare center which was negative.
I explained that my contact was about 5 weeks ago and the nurse said that their is of course a chance that the p24 part of the test may be reactive by now or during this timeframe.
Beeing a person that tends to some kind of hypochondric behavior this gives me some relief beside the words you have given in the forum here.
Because of my local lymphswelling i got an appointment at my doctor on monday.
