If you want to know why the popular vote is still so close, it's because of all of those slacker West Coast folks that insist on mail-in ballots which won't show up for several days, or longer.

Right, as if we even have a choice . There is no polling place for me to go. Mail-in ballot only. Which suits me fine.

Don't the rich usually get beheaded in a revolution?
Exactly, and deluded as he is, Trump knows he's a faux rich guy, so if the people are winning, during the Reign of Terror and in front of the Committee of Public Safety, he will cry "Show me the bank statements if you think Im a billionaire" and he'll walk.

Well, his companies have gone bankrupt before, here is hoping he will too, and fade into oblivion.

btw, this is what happens when liberal don't vote in mid-term elections in the amounts they do in presidential year campaigns. It's not just that teabagging types get elected, that's bad enough, but redistricting happens. And because the US is set up to allow partisans to control the process of drawing the maps, they make Congress even more further to the right, and not at all reflective of the larger electorate.

So next time you complain about Congress, blame yourself and your yapping liberal friends.

Bill O'Reilly was just on Katie Couric's show saying:

1.  It was Sandy that won the election for Obama, and

2.  Chris Christie is basically toast in the republican party for daring to actually say Obama did a good job on anything.  Christie will now be seen as a "sell out".

Oh, there's lots of nonsense going around. Dick Morris originally predicted Romney at 325 and Obama at 213 -- and labeled that a "landslide".

Once Florida announces their voting Obama will have 332 and Romney 206, but Morris is calling this a "squeaker". That's how Republicans operate.

Furthermore, when Dubya won 286 to Kerry's 251 the GOP claimed they had a "mandate"... ::)

I agree that the popular vote will be smallish, depends how you label squeakers. But again, it will be around Bush's 2004 margin of 2% and I don't recall any humility after that election about what Republicans did or did not win.

And because the US is set up to allow partisans to control the process of drawing the maps, they make Congress even more further to the right, and not at all reflective of the larger electorate.

The City of Austin, Texas has been gerrymandered to the point where it is split up among 6 congressional distrcts (Texas Congressional Districts # 10, 17, 21, 25, 31, and 35) which is ridiculous for a population of 820,000.  Of course, the Republican majority in the Texas House of Representatives did this deliberately to increase the number of Republicans that Texas sends to the US House of Representatives.  Unfortunately, it is perfectly legal.

So it's true:  voting only in presidential election years, and only in federal races, is not enough.  You have to be involved in what is going on at the state level.

Here is a sensible plan for redistricting that was just adopted on the local level by the City of Austin, that tries to take the politics out of redistricting in the city:

http://citizensdistricting10-1.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Indep-Citizens-Redistrict-Comm-Overview-v2.4.pdf

Note that just yesterday, Austin voted to abandon it's current city council structure of 6 "at large" representatives, and move to local representatives elected from 10 districts.  Finally, some diversity on our city council.

Just heard the condom requirement for adult films passed.  Is that for the entire state of California?  If so, the industry will be moving.  If they shoot all their scenes on a boat in international waters, are they bound by the law?    ::)

I wonder.....  "They" (the smart republicans) could flip it and start selling Christie, the future for Republican centrism.

There is a tinge of cool to Christie.

Or maybe I just want there to be. I want him to have compensations because I think talk show monologues have been AWFULLY low with the fat jokes.

Chrisitie knows what's good for him.

He is toast in the current extremist Republican party. But it will not likely be the same party in 4 years. If Christie doesn't die of a heart attack by then, he might be well positioned.

There is likely going to be some kind of purge, change or split within the Republican party, if they ever intend to become a government party again.

It will be interesting to see if the House and Senate Republicans are going to make any attempt to do what's right for the nation or just continue on the same path of obstruction over the next 2 years as they did the last 2. If they have any idea what's good for them, they will change course.

Hmm, lol, I think they already have quite a lot of porn abroad, in Eastern Europe, Asia, etc.

Chelsea Handler was discussing the condom isssue on her show.  How exactly do you enforce it and who's in charge of verifying that condoms are being used.  Her answer was; "every perv" on staff.

Also, were you aware that more votes were cast for Dem house candidates (53,952,240) than Republicans, though it will stay in Rep hands (53,402,643)? And most outstanding votes are in Dem districts so that will probably increase?

Thank you, partisan gerrymandered redistricting! How's that mandate going?

Thanks to Rick Santorum, we now know that Obama's win was actually part of a vast gay election conspiracy.

Do note his little ballot box joke at the end.

It fits right in with the actual crazy, don't it?

President Barack Obama was declared the winner of Florida's 29 electoral votes Saturday, ending a four-day count with a razor-thin margin that narrowly avoided an automatic recount that would have brought back memories of 2000.

No matter the outcome, Obama had already clinched re-election and now has 332 electoral votes to Romney's 206.

The Florida Secretary of State's Office said that with almost 100 percent of the vote counted, Obama led Republican challenger Mitt Romney 50 percent to 49.1 percent, a difference of about 74,000 votes. That was over the half-percent margin where a computer recount would have been automatically ordered unless Romney had waived it.

Can you imagine, if the election came down to Florida?!  Apparently, Obama won the state by about 78,000 votes.  Many of those were absentee.  We possibly still wouldn't know the outcome.  The Romney lawyers (and maybe rightly so) would be questioning the validity of every one of those ballots.  This could have been 2000 all over.

We need federal standards for federal elections.  Every state needs early voting.  I've never thought it was fair that some states get early voting, while others don't.  Although, in more rural states like KY, you wouldn't need as many early voting days.  Some states extend election day voting to later hours, while it stops at 6pm here.  We need to get elections out of the hands of partisans.  I thought we would have done this after Katherine Harris ran FL elections and was Bush's co-chair in FL.  Oh, and the purging.  The governor reduced early voting from 14 days to 8 days.  He is not apologizing.  He claims he did this to make gov't more efficient.  We all know it was all about voter suppression.  Why would you reduce early voting to make gov't more efficient?  Doesn't make sense.  He should be hauled before Congress to answer to this.  However, in the House, it would be run by republicans.

From what I read, this reduction in days caused many to end up voting absentee.  That was one reason for the delay.  And, as we saw, many were in line until 1am.  That should not happen.  There were not enough machines.  In many places, they had 10-page ballots to feed into the machines.  They had so many confusing ballot initiatives that caused those 10-page ballots.  I'm not sure what all those initiatives were about, but I'm now wondering whether they also did that on purpose to cause delays.

Congress has the constitutional power to dictate congressional election rules.  If the states don't go along with everything, Congress could do a separate federal election ballot and rules on early voting.  In the President's acceptance speech, he said we need to do something about the long lines.  I hope that wasn't just an applause line, and he will push to get something done.  How many people just could not wait in those long lines, due to needing to pick up their kids or return to work?  Or, they have a medical condition that would make it difficult.

Yeppir,  that's exactly the reason for the fiasco down here.  The ballot in Pinellas county was four pages , and ended up being 11 amendments.

All the state amendments failed, except for 3, and those were the ones Ed and I voted for.

Amendment 2, 9 and 11 passed. all others did not

I am also happy to say that the  3 state supreme court  judges were retained.  The republicans wanted these three out, but didn't happen.

The state house also lost it's super majority, here in Florida.

Also ,I am happy that this crazy ass was defeated, in South Florida. He was defeated by Patrick Murphy:

The two republicans that voted against the fluoride in drinking water ( here in Pinellas county) lost their seats:

And finally former Democratic Mayor of Tampa, Pam Iorio, Has decided to get action started on the voting irregularities that happened throughout the state.

Watch for Pam ,.... She may be the one that will one against the current Rick Scott. As Ricky Ricardo would say, he's got some splaining to do.

And don't be surprised if Charlie Crist runs again  for governor in 2014:

I am hoping that it will be Pam Iorio will decide to run. She would be great !

I really think these people will end up partnering with the Islamic jihadists.  Its a match made in Heaven.  I am very surprised some minister or cleric hasn't risen to fame and fortune preaching the holy alliance.

I imagine a sort of Ru Paul Drag Race All-Stars process.  The christian fundamentalist and islamic jihadist will be the unbeatable pair.  Defeating all the middling religious types, the communists, the atheists, the media liberals, everyone.

Only in the final battle, all enemies conquered, will they turn on each other and rip each other's faces off.
