If you haven't already watched Rachel Maddow tonight, it's online now, first part of an extensive interview with David Bahati, the Uganda legislator who is instrumental in launching the Kill-the-Gay legislation. If nothing else it's amusing to count how many times the word "children" was being uttered.

Especially when you consider that the vast majority of pedophiles are men who identify as heterosexual and are often married to women. Even the men who molest boys.

That wickedness will never come to light for it is too controversial.  It is simpler to blame lesbians and gays, like some blame the devil, for all the evils on earth.

It is politically efficient and the masses eat it up like apple pie.  Besides, you don't mess with your supporters that way.

Bahati is far more dangerous because I think he actually knows what he's doing - inciting hatred against a stigmatized group for political gain. He might have been cornered in this interview by Rachel and didn't appear as someone "smart", but I believe he's no christianist simpleton, more an ambitious politician who knows the value of creating a group of imagined social enemy that can be used for his own power grabbing.
