2010 Las Vegas Gathering/ Time of Year Discussion
« on: October 10, 2009, 03:04:53 pm »
The North American AMG has typically been held in August/September. In the initial destination vote, many members voted for the month of August. Many didn't mention a month, or stated it made no difference to them.

To allow sufficient time for planning for the coordinators as well as attendees, I propose we remain consistent and proceed with the month of August.

What does everyone esle think? We'll let this discussion continue for a few weeks before hotels are contacted for the best group rate during the month chosen.

Edited to add...To avoid offending our European friends, I have removed "AMG" from the Las Vegas gathering.

Since this is not an "official" AMG, I will  be posting any future updates from my personal screen name "Dennis".

Afterall, it's not what the gathering is called, but what happens at them.

Aug works for me.

If it's early in the month, Sid and I can celebrate our 20th anniversary (Aug 2) with you all

Excellent solution Dennis.

I dont care if we call it a Quilting Bee, I will be there.

Perhaps to avoid any further problems we should post info regarding Vegas in the OT...just a thought

The two Davids and Bonnie will be happy to attend a get-together in Las Vegas in August '10.  This will help those who work in schools or are in school to attend.

There are a few of us with 'experience' in Las Vegas, so planning shouldn't be too difficult.

You might be right Will.  But what about the group designing and sewing a square for the "AIDS Memorial Quilt" as an event for this year?  Just a thought.

Actually...not a bad idea. Since this is not an official AMG this might be a nice subsitution to designing a t-shirt.

Ric that is an excellent Idea! In this way our gathering experience could/will live on forever. Many years from now we could go to Aidsquilt.org look up our "square" and be proud of what we contributed.

Curtis and I went to UT just last week and saw a portion of the quilt, it was awesome!

We have plenty of time for this.

As not to confuse the two events, may I suggest we step aside for a bit and allow the AMG 2010 committee the use of these forums to plan AMG 2010 London.

The Las Vegas gathering will come together in no time and further details about this informal gathering will be announced in the near future.

In the meantime, let us try to keep our discussions about Las Vegas to this ONE thread...

Hi Nick,

I moved your thread to the Living forum, as you requested in a PM. I'm interested in hearing more details of what you want to do regarding the Quilt.

Hugs,
Ann

Ann,

Just to set the record straight, this idea is not Nick's.  I was mine.  I fully know that is why you moved it off the "AMG" forum.  It has been suggested as an event for the Las Vegas Meeting and therefore should not have been moved.

I know that you have "heart burn" with me, but don't you dare think you can or will be allowed to take it out on others forum members who are showing support of this or any other Las Legas endeavor.

I request that it be moved to where it was first posted and that you leave well enough alone in the future.

Ric

This lady is totally out of line here.  My request stands.  It's a shame that she has taken it upon herself to bring this discussing to the "Living With" forum.  I am truly sorry for the intrusion.

Respect to all, Ric

Ric,

Knock it off. I think I made an honest mistake (misread PM) and I've PMd Nick about it. What is your problem that you insist on attacking me? I'm awaiting Nick's response.

I only comment on you over stepping your bounds as a forum admin when you over step your bounds.  Remember that you were one of my very first friends here?

Nick's response has no relevance here.  Change this back to where it belongs.

Right. I finally figured out what the hell was going on. I haven't been reading this thread as it has nothing to do with me. Do you people really thing I read every single thread posted on these forums? I have a life, thank you very much.

Nick PMd me and asked me to move his thread. He was a bit vague, as was the post. I thought I was doing the right thing when I moved it to Living, but no, Ric, instead of PMing me and nicely asking me to put things right and explaining what happened, he PMd me and attacked me and also attacked me in the forum.

I'm only human. I make mistakes sometimes, and I admit it when I make a mistake. Ric, if you choose to continue to attack me, you'll be getting another time out. And yes, I remember when you were one of my friends here. But, you've done nothing but shit on me for a couple years now. Thanks

Why has the Quilt thread been stuck in the this thread dealing with the time of year for a Vegas gathering?  I recommend that it be removed, as it's unrelated and creates a bit of a hijack.

As a new more active member I live in Las Vegas. You are probably going to get good rates on hotels because of the Hot weather. I will be there regardless. Hope to meet some new friends and possibly start a new relationship.

I think it's safe to say the majority agree with August.

Hotel rates are currently being compiled.

A few choice hotels and dates within August will be posted shortly to vote on.

That sounds good, Dennis.  I expect that you can 'work your magic' in terms of getting us a deal with perks (like a gathering place, discounts, etc)!   ;)

Cool, we have a local to show us all the good stuff to do that we don't know about!  It's always helpful to have somebody from the area we'll be visiting.

Luckily, I've also behaved angelic like during these gatherings.

I'm in the process of hotel negotiations. I should have a few options to everyone to vote on in the next few weeks.

Unofficial BreakAway Gathering - UBAG (pronounced 'You Bag').

In addition to when, would it be reasonable to find out who's planning on attending... or at least trying to attend UBAG?  Does that make a difference when it comes to getting prices for rooms?  I'll also check on some packages next week, though I'm going to be busy most of the week.  Southwest Airlines has hotel / flight packages at www.swavacations.com.  We've booked ours there a time or two and got really good prices; it comes out to be like the hotel is almost free.

If you are a member of Sam's Club, you can book your hotel / flight package with them and get some really good deals. They give you several choices of flight options and available hotels along with customer feedback.  You pick your flight and your hotel and the website calculates everything for you.  Hubby played with several different options before finally booking. For Boston, 3 non-stop round trip airline tickets and our 4-night hotel stay with all taxes and fees was $1020.20.

Just another option I wanted to throw out there.

Early predictions, based on participation in this thread and personal private messages, show aproximately 25 persons intend to participate in the Las Vegas gathering. I predict this number will grow, and attendance will be close to what it was in San Francisco.

I'll go in August, my only concern being the blasting down Nevada sun that time of year.  I'll also probably just dip into the atmosphere there for a few days and combine with a side trip somewhere else in the region, maybe Napa Valley or Yosemite NP.  Three days in Las Vegas is puh-lenty for me.

Curtis, plan a day trip to Mt. Charleston one day and it'll be plenty cool for you:  www.sandraoffthestrip.com/day-trips-from-the-strip/mt-charleston-vegas-summer-winter-retreat/.   ;)

We always do a day trip to Mt Charleston and it's been chilly even in July.  Personally, as long as I didn't stay in direct sun for extended periods, I've always found Las Vegas to be more comfortable in summer than most of NC (even at the gay / nude beach at Lake Meade).

hey guy, used to live/work in LV ,Mt Charleston is a part of a National forest,  in the upper parts of the mt are camp sites,  the weather is very cool and it has been known to have horizontal winds at high velocity and snow in the late summer months...  there is another mt right bside it  " Angels Peak",  also a park and it has some camping as well as the controll radar for most of the southeast USA

I will go to either the beach or the mountains, or both.  For those of you who might be formally disabled; you can get a golden pass to National parks and get in for free.  If you are the one behind the wheel, the whole car gets in for free.

Dennis, please make sure to include the Stratosphere in your search for lodging, as they are the cheapest in LV.  Two can share a room for about $25.00 each for most of the year.  I know it isn't in the middle of the strip, but the bus system is very cheap and regular.
The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals,
