sven,

The window period for hiv testing is three months regardless of exposure. You are conclusively hiv negtative and you do not need further testing.

There are a few very specific reasons which are the only ones when testing beyond 3 months is warranted. They are if extensive intravenous drug use has been involved, a serious illness such as cancer treatment or supressed immune system due to organ transplant. Otherwise 3 months is sufficient for a reliable result.

Cheers.

At 13 weeks all generations of tests currently in use are sensitive enough to give you a reliable result.

Give it up and get on with your life. Really. HIV is not your problem. Period.

Sven,

I've yet to see a SIX WEEK negative turn positive - even in the case of a high risk incident. The highest risk is receptive anal intercourse with a person KNOWN to be hiv positive. What do you perceive to be "high risk"? What happened that you are worried about?

Never mind what you may read about "personal experience" on the internet. "Patient reporting" is notorious for being WRONG. People sometimes "forget" situations that have put them at risk, whether that is because of drugs, alcohol, or simply being too ashamed to admit to what they've done or had done to them.

The bottom line where you are concerned is that you have conclusively tested hiv negative. You do NOT have hiv.

And that's a good thing.

thx for everything. you guys are great thanks for all the help and I'm sorry for the dumb questions. I was just so scared and kept getting different answers about the window period and since I was "High Risk" that was really scary. So can I put this behind me? thanks Ann and Andy  one more thing so it would be cool to resume unprotected sex with my monogamous partner?

Sven,

You can resume unprotected with your monogamous partner as long as you have BOTH been tested for all STIs - before the condoms ever came off.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER TESTING OVER YOUR ALLEGED HIGH RISK INCIDENT, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Sven,

I've never seen a six week negative turn poz either here on the forum or in my personal life. I've been posting in the Am I Infected forum since 2001.

Huntingtons disease will have absolutely NO impact on hiv testing.

You do NOT have hiv. You ARE conclusively hiv negative. Make sure you're using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse with ANYONE who you do not know the hiv status of for a fact and you will stay hiv negative. It's that simple.

Sven,

You've already been told - repeatedly - that you are conclusively hiv negative. Every single one of the tests you used are FDA approved and valid.

You do not have hiv and it's time you got on with your life. If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned.

You are HIV negative. Period. End of story. If you come back here again with more what ifs and other stuff which are just about anxiety, you're going to get a Time Out for 28 days.

It is safe for you to have sex with your partner. You don't have HIV. You can't give someone a virus you don't have.
