Finally Home...and We Shoulda Stayed in Seattle!
« on: August 25, 2011, 03:23:16 am »
We opened a hot house at 12:30am Central Time (left the thermostat at 84 for the vinyl) only to discover that the fridge and half the freezer is on the blink...smelly on the fridge side and sticky banana icicles on the freezer side (I freeze leftover bananas for bread and one bag evidently had a leak.) BUT that's what the homeowner warranty is for and so I added the fridge (only a year old) to the oven work order online.

We had another lovely visit with Michael before training it to SEA-TAC airport, and I got in a bit of a pissy travel mood when the clocks didn't match up. Phoenix is, according to one map, on Mountain Time, but I guess they don't do Daylight Savings Time there? Our flight therefore took an hour longer than I expected but then our flight to Austin was an hour shorter. We had lots of turbulence on that one so by the time they started beverage service they were happy to serve us doubles.

We had a grand time but it seems from the beginning I have it in the back of my mind that we are ticking down to the end. I need to work on that. I cherish the time I have with old friends, and enjoyed meeting my new friends as well, and the time we spend together is priceless. If anyone is reading that has wondered about our Gatherings, I hope you'll peruse this forum and read Jody's recent thread here, too. It really is a magical experience and as much as I tear up when I leave, it's worth it.

And I'm glad they like my Santiago, too. This was his 4th Gathering.

Don't count on my hair being this fabulous in the future, though. Coming back to Texas was a rude awakening for it. It may be in short supply soon.

Glad you made it home safely.  Really enjoyed our time together.  And of course we adored Santi, who wouldn't?  He is absolutely the sweetest person.

Have a great one and get rested up.

Glad you made it home and sorry to hear about your homecoming. Hope you get everything cleaned up and fixed up quickly. Thanks for turning out the lights at the Roosevelt when y'all left. ;) :-*

Ah Arizona.  It seems they simply refuse to observe Daylight Savings Time.  Travel through there is always confusing because you are never really sure what time it is!

It was great to see you both again in Seattle.  We can start the countdown soon to next summer (wherever and whenever!)

It was, as always great to see you too Creighton, and Santi as well, I adore that man!  It's odd that you had a freezer problem and Mark had an irrigation issue and when I got home I discovered, hours later, that the top window above my living room air conditioner dropped down.  Luckily I have blinds in front of the windows or a smart bird might have found his way in and I could have had pigeons in the apartment.  EWWWW... Thankfully, maintenance came and fixed it.

Did you shut the lights in Seattle dear?

Jody,

You will have to tell us about the experience of Hurricane Irene in NYC.  I never thought I would see the day that NYC would be in the direct path of a hurricane.

Yes Gary, it is now 4PM, EST and the darned thing is only moving at about 13 miles an hour as it pulls into Virginia.  Ideally it would be going about 25 mph.  So it creeps up here and will pick up steam from the still warm North Atlantic waters.  They're now talking about the epicenter going right over the Brooklyn, Queens border.  What I know about hurricanes you can put on the head of a pin with enough room for Uranus but does that mean maybe the eye will go over my neighborhood.  I think that's good because it's calm in the eye or will I finally be swept away like Dorothy and Toto?  If so we New Yawka's will finally get our just due after making fun of that damned tornado in Wizard of Oz all these decades already?  Anyway massive hurricanes, it seems are like mother ships for tornadoes so they're coming as well.

Prediction: The End of the World may be August 28, 2011
