I don't need to know right now, but eventually when my father passes his house will belong to my sister and I and if we can sell it what would happen if I come into say $60K or more?  Do you have to report it to SSD or Medicare.  I would think SSD wouldn't matter because coming into money doesn't make you not disabled.
Pray God you can cope
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

Hi LiveWithIt,
An inheritance won't have any effect on your SSDI or Medicare eligibility, but it would definitely affect your eligibility for SSI and Medicaid, which both take into account personal assets (if you have more than $2000 in assets, you aren't eligible).
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth,
The minor fall, the major lift,
The baffled king composing Hallelujah!

Definitely talk to a lawyer and discuss having the house and any other assets put into a family trust. While I don't understand the details of it, my parents did it with their house and life savings to protect it for me and my siblings for the future and keep us from having to count the assets in the trust as personal assets.

Even though I'm dirt poor at the moment, it's nice to think that I'm a trust fund kid who just hasn't come into his money yet :-) Lol I wish.
