Indroducing...oops.. slight miscalculation

LYDIA'S NEW FAMILY

Lydia went missing 3 weeks ago, I searched everywhere for her and couldn't find her, I finally convinced myself that something had taken her.
Tonight, when i went down to bed the other chooks, there was Lydia sitting in the corner, and she had brought her family home...6 beautiful chooks, I was so happy to see her.

I know I promised no more animal pics until Feb ...but I couldn't resist in showing them off... ;)

Hugs

Izzy,

Chooks is Scottish for chickens. Dunno why... ::)

Jan,

Aw, ain't they cute! Lydia must have disappeared to make sure her chicks didn't end up in an omlette! That's one smart chook! ;)

Keep posting those animal photos. Please, pretty please?

this is the first thing I found:

hummm me thinks that is not what Jan means... or at least not in this form...

second option that came up was this: http://abc.net.au/creaturefeatures/facts/chooks.htm

Jan,

the chickies are adorable!   I'm glad Lydia returned home with her babies.

Baby chicks are the softest things I have ever felt....don't you love to hold them?

hugs,

Thanks everyone for putting up with my animal photo's...I was just so pleased to see them all (mum and chicks) last night I had to take some Pics.

Ann is right, we call chickens chooks in Scotland, but they call them that in Aussie too.

Charles...they will not end up in a casserole, I'll keep some for the yard and send the rest to good homes...we have a Bantam sitting on 5 eggs at the moment, they should be hatched soon and I'm trying my hand at hatching some that one of the mums left, so I have put together a home made incubator, got the plans from the net..so wish me luck.. :D

Thanks you all again.

Anne, animal photos are fun :)  So cute and cuddly...

Thanks for the explanation... While I thought they were chicks in the picture, I didn't want to guess.

Cute family... she had one heavy nest!!

so cute. Love animal pictures, keep them coming. I am a bit jealous, we have to steal the eggs and put them in a incubator to get them to hatch. We have managed to get 8 and I think it is so nice to get to hold a real live chick. aren't they so warm and fuzzy. Thanks ,  Cristy

Hey Jan,

That's a great photo. I wish I had chickens, if only for the fresh eggs.

Keep em coming dear, I love the photos.

Hi Alex

I have no idea why they are brown and not yellow..all the chicks I have ever seen are the cute little yellow ones you get around Easter time, and that's what I was expecting to see.

Lydia, as you can see is a grey speckled hen and dad (old booster the rooster) has beautiful iridescent blue, green and black colors..so I have no idea why they are brown...but they are just as cute..although there are a couple of little fawn ones among them with a little black stripe down the middle of their back...sorry I don't have the answer for you.

Jaserand and Spud...shame on you...they are not meant to get the taste buds flowing.. :D

Hi southern

Wow..and I thought 17 was a lot..I only have two sitting on eggs at the moment...5 eggs each, so not to many to look after..I have 5 acres, they forage around the paddocks for the most part of the day but they never want to stay in there...they prefer to make a mess of the gardens instead. :D..(the goats and Alpacas are facinated by them)...but I love watching them all running around near the house.
