Queen Mary 2
« on: February 06, 2007, 08:02:46 am »
So it's Super Bowl Sunday.

Do the man and I watch the game?  Nah.

We go watch the Queen Mary 2 pull into San Francisco Bay on her round-the-world cruise.  It was a hazy  day outside, but we (and thousands of others) piled around the Bay to watch the huge ship slide under the Golden Gate Bridge to the adoring crowds of sailboats and admirers.

I took some pics myself, but they don't do it justice like those from the SF Chronicle.

Next stop:  Sydney, via Honolulu (I even hear you Sydneysiders have some clunky structure that passes for a bridge  ;))

The QM2 is awesome.  I've been lucky enough to cross the Atlantic by ship a couple of times, once on her.  Not as expensive as you might think, depending on the time of year you can get it for $700-800.  Always a good-sized gay contingent on Cunard too.

Cool, John.

I love watching the big ships come in.

You are spot on, the Queen Mary 2 arrives in Sydney in only 13 days time, in the early morning, to be joined by the QE2 that night.
They are both too big to fit under that clunky structure we call a bridge, though.
Be forgiving, be grateful, be optimistic

I think Pied Piper books large groups on the QM2, but its not a whole ship takeover, like Atlantis.  I don't think I'd like a totally gay cruise, too much attitude.  Has anybody done one?

I just got back from an Atlantis cruise, There was not any attitude that you might assume would come from such a large group of Gay men. It was actually very relaxed. I once did a "Mixed " cruise with a fairly small group of gay men and it sucked bigtime  Nobody ever seemed to get into the vacation frame of mind, it was like we never left the port. All Gay All The Way !!!!

Has anyone been on an all-poz cruise?
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

George Eliot, Middlemarch, final paragraph

Apparently RSVP is doing an all-gay transatlantic crossing on the QM2 May 29 - June 4.
