Ok so in july I had unprotected sex with my partner once, we have been together for two years and then I found out that he was cheating and the relationship ended. About three weeks after I started to feel pain in my lower level almost like bad cramps, it didnt last long actually maybe for 15 mins to 30mins. Than later on the week i started having white Vag discharge and it kind of ich ,I went to the dr and they gave me azithromycin, because they said it was just probably a bacteria infection . The iching went away and most of the discharge. But now i have a dry cough it is not constant just random, my throat does not burn or anything it does feel like i have mucus sittin there, I dont have a fever or anything, I am losing weight but the only thing about that is that I have been dieting for a while. I still am having a little white discharge and dry cough, and i have notice a bump on the back of my arm, it was small than it got big (but i was pickin at it because it thought it was a pimple), but the next morning it wen back to a small size, I also have a bump on my lower back and back of my shoulder and back of my neck. The on my should is gone , the one on my back is gone and the one on my neck is still there but it has a scab on it because i was messing with it but it is very small, not lke a pimple but a like a bug bite. I wen online to look up symptoms and it said that I may have HIV, I am scared that I may have HIV.... Should I be worried??. This was my first time ever having unprotected sex and he was my first sexual partner. I have a dr appointment on monday and I was wondering if I should ask for a HIV test... or am I just worring to much. plz respond im very scared. =(  :'(

Since you have had unprotected sex with a partner of unknown status, I highly recommend that you get a complete STD panel done, including an HIV test, at the three month period after the last encounter.

From what you described, that would be now, correct? So asking for a complete STD panel including an HIV test would be the prudent thing to do.

Please get a complete panel done. Other STDs are far more easily transmitted than HIV, and many of them do not produce symptoms, but can really do some long term damage - or in the case of syphilis, lead to irreversible hearing and sight loss, madness, and death if left untreated.

I sincerely hope you come through this ok.

Ltran,

You have had a risk and you do need to test. You also need to wise up and start making sure your partner is wearing a condom.

That vaginal discharge and itching sounds more like a yeast infection than a bacterial infection. Antibiotics will not help a yeast infection, in fact they will make it worse. Get that checked out.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Ltran,

You say your partner was "clean", but what does taking regular showers have to do with anything hiv related? When you use the word clean to describe someone's hiv status or sexual health status, it implies that those of us who are hiv positive are dirty somehow. I'm not dirty, thank you very much.

Again, you must be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, regardless of what you think you may know about someone's hiv status, or even what they tell you about their hiv status. You need to assume ANYONE you have intercourse with is hiv positive and protect yourself accordingly by insisting on condom usage.
