Am I overreacting or is this possibly HIV
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:53:17 pm »
Alright, so about 7 weeks ago (about 52 days) I messed around with a surprisingly hot guy on craigslist. He was 32, I'm 19 and I feel like this was the dumbest thing that I could have done (Im not out and im even starting a relationship with i girl i met recently). We gave and received oral from each other and I recieved protected anal sex from him. It was very brief since I never bottomed before and didnt use enough lube so we stopped since I was uncomfortable. On two separate moments I also briefly put my penis up to his anus but did not penetrate (that was without a condom). So about two weeks later I experienced
tingling in my feet that over time progressed to my arms, hands, and at times anywhere.  I don't really expierience those sensations as often but I still do occasionally. I also feel a warm sensation on my leg at times. it doesn't hurt but it feels like theres heat there for no reason. At  one time during Christmas break I experienced some type of burning sensation in the back of my neck that progressed to the front and to the sides. About two weeks ago I went to get tested and the doctors said my temp was 97 and that my lymph nodes are normal. I checked my groin yesturday and felt these tube like things at the top where my groin meets my leg if that makes any sense. Its like the crease. It's long, not that movable (unlike other lymphnodes I've felt) and its also skinny. I'm not even sure if there lymph nodes but last might i coundnt really sleep because I was thinking about it so much. And the doctor checked my lymph nodes really quickly. Is that normal? I feel some on my neck but there all pea size except this almond shapes one on the right side. Should I get a second opinion? I get my results next week but Im pretty sure that its going to be positive. Am I overthinking? Did anyone else have similar symptoms?

There is nothing HIV specific about your symptoms. That's not surprising since nothing you are reporting put you at risk for HIV. A condom was used for anal intercourse which is exactly what you are supposed to do. Nothing else was potentially a risk in what you have reported.

The only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse.

Your symptoms are something to discuss with your doctor if they persist. Leave your lymph nodes alone. They are very sensitive to the touch and you can create a big problem by squeezing and bothering them.

This is not an HIV situation. There is no need for HIV testing.

Just wanting to pop in and echo what Andy said. Continue using a condom (consistently and correctly, of course) and you will not contract HIV. It's truly that simple.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."
