New Doctor
« on: October 05, 2006, 09:51:27 pm »
Well today I met my new Doctor and left there really upset and in tears. I was excited to meet with my new doctor and was hoping it would go well. This is what she said as soon as she open the door. "Great your a smoker, I could smell it from down the hall" I was shocked, she didn't introduce herself or ask me name or anything.  She then goes threw my chart and my meds and asks me if there is anythin that I needed to talk about, I told her about my neck problems (bad car accident =bad fucked up neck) because I today my neck hurt and my old doctor would shoot cortisone in it and it would help alto, but no she didn't think I needed it so instead sends me down for Xrays, and told me to take a Tylenol. Then asks me about my anti-depressants and said "Do you really need these?" UM YA BITCH I DO, IF IT WASN'T FOR THOSE ANTI-DEPRESSANTS I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE SNAPPED YOUR NECK IN HALF BY NOW!!! When she was done she opens the door and says "see you in 6 months" and that was it. I left crying and called when I got home and said I would not be coming back. Total drag, I will never find a doctor like the one I had for 6 years.. I'm sad to say the least...

Hello Sacredpoz, it is Eldon.

It is an unfortunate situation that you have run into with your Doctor. The BEST thing that you CAN DO is contact your local ASO (Aids Service Organization) and look into finding another Doctor in your area. From what I gather, that was an extremely rude act with your Doctor on her part. There is more than one Doctor, you will find the right one. As a matter-of-a-fact, ask for a referral when you DO call the ASO.

Well the thing is she is not my HIV doctor, she is my Physician because my new HIV Doctor will only see me for my HIV. Its fucked up I know. My old HIV doc saw me for everything. Here in Spokane we now only have two Doctors that treat HIV, and one other (the one I will be seeing) the is a infectious disease doctor but he will not see me for anything other then HIV related stuff.
I meet the HIV doctor on the 24th of this month, will see how he is. As for the one I saw today I called their office when I got home and told them I would no longer see her.

Hi Sacredpoz,

If you and this new HIV Doctor make a positive connection, then by all means ask him for a referral.

Dear ScaredPoz,
First I would like to welcome you.  Great group of people here.  I am sorry you had a bad expeience with new doctor.  I feel you did the right thing by not going back to her.  Hopefully you have insurance of some kind that will allow you to go to a new docotor.  You deserve more than to put up with that shit.   Your relationship with your docotr is a very important relationship, and if you do not feel comfortable with your doc you will be questioning that doc all the time which is not condusive.  I wish you the best with your new ID doc, hopefully he makes a better impression.  This is your life and you steer the boat.  I wish you the best and let us know how it goes with new ID doc.  Great Big Hug to you.  Rachel

If you have an option to see another doctor (some people don't have the choice due to their type of health insurance or lack thereof), I agree with the sentiment of one person, FIRE THAT BITCH. Is she even an infectious disease or HIV specialist? Do you have support groups in your area where you can get feedback on who the good doctors are? I live near a big city but I know that choice is more limited the farther you get from one. There's a website for people in my area that's a dating website, which is irrelevant to me, but I was able to get some opinions about various doctors in the area. If you're stuck with her, you can try to communicate your concerns about her behavior but that can be hard if you don't like confrontation. And she probably wouldn't change anyway. If you can find a doctor that's farther away who is competent and compassionate, it's worth going out of your way. Good luck. My experience with doctors has been very mixed. I just left a doctor after 5 years for reasons I won't bore you with because I can go on and on and on .  .  . ad nauseum.
