Thunder Thighs
« on: May 25, 2011, 01:13:08 pm »
It seems I have now been appointed chauffeur and drop off service to every person I know in Alabama that has had one meal to many of fried potatoes and butter beans and cornbread .

My aunt just called and asked me to carry my uncle who does have trouble getting around now to a graduation ceremony tomorrow night because she would have to let him out , go park and walk to auditorium . She has no problem going down every aisle at Wallmart but calls me all the time now to take my uncle to the doctor or any thing else she doesn't want to do . I would be more receptive if I didn't feel manipulated , if she would just say I really don't want to do this , would you do this for me I may could take it better but the truth is she only cries disabled when its something she doesn't want to do .

My friends that are my age are getting just as bad and will pitch a fit if you don't go around a parking lot 10 times to park up front but then can spend a day at the flea market and insist on walking the whole thing with a smile on there face . I am making light of this but as a disabled person who is often in chronic pain this is offensive to me . Just a little rant  ;D .

Sounds fair enough to me your position that is,  I still remember the shock on my in laws face when I said I was going for a walk, voluntarily, it was explained later that was very odd behavior in L.A. by the Bel Air police who stopped me.

Family members are quite good at manipulating, usually based on assumed position and authority in a hierarchical family structure.  Nothing irritates me more than people who can't really be straightforward about why they want you to do something.

Hint:  it probably won't stop unless you speak up.

I hear you honey, loud and clear.  I don't use my handicap permit unless one of us is having a REALLY bad day (ok I may use it if it is pouring rain   ;D  )

The obesity of this State is shocking.  It has added some fun things to my vocabulary, though....such as "let's go waddle through walmart"   :-*

As a guy with Aids I work so hard to stay healthy so its disturbing watching people I love eat themselves to death . I have diabetes because of years of HIV meds , sometime when I visit my friends I have to go home after a few days  because its so hard not to eat whats offered .

I feel your pain. I am the go to person that has to take a family member to the grocery store to load up on Ice Cream and cookies. She's so big she cant even fit in my car so we have to take her van. Then when we get to the grocery store she has to ride one of those electric carts because she "doesnt like to walk" (she's not handicapped just fat). It's quite embarrassing to see her basket overflowing with ice cream and her massive polyester wrapped ass hanging over the sides of the seat. But you see that alot here in San Antonio...rarely do I see an actual handicapped person in those carts, it's always a bunch of fatties riding them up and down the ICe cream aisle.

Sometimes, being a nice guy just doesn't pay. What I think you may want to do, is to learn how to say no, without actually using the word: no.  For example, with your aunt you could briefly explain how poorly you were feeling and as much as you would like to help, this is just not a good time and you are so sorry that you are unable to help at this time. Any resistance on her part, is firmly met with pleadings of how miserable you feel and that ultimately you must take care of your own health.

The parking lot issue is even easier to fix. The next time your buddies insist that you circumnavigate the parking lot, stop at the nearest open space and if they balk, get out of the car and instruct them to park the car and meet you inside. Problem solved.

I do not know any obese people that ride in electric carts at Costco. Seriously, not a single friend or even a family member.

However, I hope to see this phenomena one day if I go visit Jeff.

Of course not -- in fact I don't think I've ever even been in one. Or a Sam's Club. But I figured that's where fat people shop to get massive boxes of cookies and chips, right?

They need to put those WIDE LOAD signs on the carts. What's just as perplexing is the rail thin men that accompany the behemoths.

It is certainly prevalent here in Texas.

I drove one of those electric carts in Costco for the first time last month-- broken leg, ya know. They are very speedy, manuverable and gave me a barely resistable urge to run over someone. Fun!

I think Texas has a couple of cities (Houston, San Antonio) in the top 5 Fattest Cities in the US.

But of course, It's a well know fact that the food in the south is better than that stuff the yanks eat.
