Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

On April 22, 2007 I had a incident where the condom slipped off and my partner did not inform me. I realized this happened after I got up and felt something going down my leg, yes, the condom leaked inside me. I have been going out of my mind with worry and didn't know where to turn for advice. I had swabs done and HIV test 17 days after the incident. I know it was too soon to test but had to give myself at least hope that I wasn't exposed to anything. One week after possible exposure I had a fever, ear infection, headaches, joint/muscle pain that comes and goes, yeast infection that won't go away and started my 2nd treatment lastnight, bouts of diarrhea off and on. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Take a deep breath and try to be calm.  I know what must be going through your head.  You are correct an HIV test this early in the game will not show up anything.  I honestly don't think that the fever, ear infection , headaches, and or joint/muscle pain are signs of HIV infection this early in the game.  I am not sure what the 2nd treatment you are referring to is.  My suggestion is take a deep breath and get tested again around July 22nd as that would be 3 months after the possible exposure then again at the 6 month mark (October 22).  Be strong my friend!

iskwew65, is you friend HIV positive? You need to test at 3 months after your possible exposure to get your conclusive test results. You will not need to take a test at 6 months, three months is final. Symptoms or lack of is no indications of HIV and in your case they came on to early to be related. Just repete the test again at the end of your three months.

I started my 2nd round of clotrimaderm cream 1%...just finished the other tube 2 nights ago. I did get tested for sti's but so far nobody has called me yet. I forgot to mention that I am female from Canada. Rapidrod, I don't know if my partner is positive for hiv and I have since stopped seeing him. He couldn't be honest about anything when I asked him about his status which made me freak out.

Isk,

I appreciate that you're upset at the moment, but the chances of you having contracted HIV from this event is not very high even if your former partner is HIV positive. You do need to be tested for HIV, which as Roddles points out, will be conclusive 12-13 weeks from the date of this sexual encounter.

All sexually active people should have a full STD screen at least once a year. Twice is better. A full screen includes an HIV antibody test.

ISK, for what it's worth absolutely nothing you are reporting in the way of symptoms is in any way HIV specific. But then neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms will ever tell you anything accurately about your HIV status. Only an HIV test done at 13 weeks after the most recent incident will give you a reliable answer.

During the waiting period if you stay productively busy you will find the time really will pass more quickly than you may imagine possible at this point.
