Scared
« on: March 22, 2018, 04:50:12 pm »
Hi,

In Late October of 2017 I met my ex boyfriend he was always a top(insertive) and I was always a bottom(receptive) we started having sexual intercourse in November and this remained protected until the beginning of January, in the middle of December we both had HIV tests taken and both tested negative him on December 12, 2017 and me on December 14, 2017 (Only to make sure we were both STD free and can continue a healthy relationship). By January I had figured that it maybe time to lose the condoms (thinking we are both STD free) so on January 5th, 2018 I had unprotected anal intercourse me a bottom him a top during this he came inside me. As time went on I didn’t worry much about this and it was the last sexual encounter I have had this year. On March 10, 2018 I began having flu symptoms sudden onset of a sore throat, congestion, runny nose, cough, sneezing, fatigue, body aches and diarrhea no fever. (Before this began however I was literally pulling all nighters and stressed about school) (can be from a lack of sleep that I contracted the flu so easy?) anyway a week goes by and its March 17 2018 and I feel somewhat okay still fatigued symptoms all cleared up except diarrhea however this is just the begining of the stomach flu - literally all the symptoms of the stomach flu fever to everything. Now I had no out of the ordinary sized lymph node nor did I notice any rashes however due to my anxiety I have constanly been touching my neck and maybe I’ve been trying way to hard to feel them and now I am. Also I had a rapid HIV test done on March 15th 2018(9 Weeks) and tested Negative now this is not conclusive however my areas of conern lie here can it be possible that I maybe seroconverting at a late stage and thats why my test didn’t pick it up?

Generally I am worried here can you seroconvert 9 weeks after a possible exposure and if so would the symptoms come all at once or seperate?

Hi

Runny nose etc etc have nothing to do with HIV

From your post i understand the risk was unprotected intercourse, and you tested at 9 weeks. Any negative result post 6 weeks will rarely change however it is standard to test again at 13 weeks for a conclusive result

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

I wil test again at the end of this month hoping only for the best however, based on your time spent answering questions for the community here can you say (for the relief of my anxiety) what are the chances or is it even possible to seroconvert passed the average 22 days or 4 - 6 week time period? This scare has really made me reconsider my entire life I barebacked once and now I am suffering with fear and anxiety for doing something I thought was natural? In general I’ve heard that HIV is a difficult virus to actually catch and in my circumstance its the riskiest though I have read of couples who had opposite statuses after months of engaging in risky behavior. I also read that though its possible to seroconvert passed 6 weeks it usually happens amongs people who are drug users or people who have contracted other STDs. In my case I am really just looking for reassurance? I know the only way to know is to get tested.

At no stage did i say it was not natural, not sure why you have that idea either.

Like I said it would be rare for a test result past 6 weeks to change but simply test at 13 weeks for a conclusive negative result. I do not expect your test results to change but test to confirm that.

Sure, i have mates who have never used a condom in their entire life and screw everything that moves and they are fine. I did it once and got HIV luck of the draw and statistics and stories often don't equal fact and the fact simply is you had a risk and so should test
