testing question
« on: June 10, 2008, 03:41:26 pm »
Hello,
First, i would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do here..really.
I have a guestion for hiv testing, because i find different opinions about this issue.

I had an hiv test which was an agab test.the result was negative, six weeks post exposure.
The doctor told me that i am ok and that with this test (combined antigen)someone will show positive at 10 days.

Then,i found that the antigen part can detect the hiv virus only shortly after infection(about 2-5 weeks)and then cant show on the test..and the antibody part maybe will not show positive yet.

But,i also read other opinions. That antibodies are produced from the antigens so when the antigen become undetectable,at that time sufficient antibodies will have produced, and the antibody part would be positive.
What is the true about this?if anyone knows the real deal about this i would be very thankful!

Τhanks

Flower,

The only conclusive negative hiv test is one taken at three months past a risky incident. However, a six week negative result is unlikely to change. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being 22 days. A six week negative result MUST be confirmed at the three month point.

What happened that leads you to believe you have been at risk for hiv infection? You might be worrying over nothing.

I know that the window period from the CDC is 3 months, but many doctors believe that a third or thourth generation test at six weeks is highly accurate.
i would like more information about the agab test..if anyone could give me..??
and if the window period for all the tests is the same(3 months)so for what reason the new tests stand for?

I also want to ask you the risk for..
1.deep kissing with cut on lip and possibly bleeding gums
2.precum or semen from penis on fingers and immediately inside the vagina, during fingering
3.frottage,penis rubbing against vagina with precum or semen for a long time

Because there are various tests around, we here at this site consistently go with the CDC recommendation of testing at 13 weeks. At that point the generation of the test is irrelevant. They will all yield an accurate result. And I am unwilling to speculate on the greater or lesser accuracy of other tests at an earlier date.

None of the various activities which you have asked about would have put you at risk for transmission.

Thank you very much.

I appreciate everything you say,but i am very anxious and i really dont understand why there is no risk.
Please help me understand better..

1.Kissing.i know saliva is not infectious. But what about blood to blood?i had a cut on my lip and also sometimes my gums bleed a lot.(roughly kissed with 3 guys)
2.Being fingered with possibly precum or semen. If this happened immediately,i think that it couldnt become inactive so soon..?
3.Rubbing penis against vagina(inner lips).aigain with precum

Please tell me because i am really concered and depressed..

Listen, we're not here to convince you of anything. We know what's risky and what isn't because we have decades of experience in the epidemic. HIV is a fragile virus and sexually is only passed in two very specific ways: it's either unprotected vaginal or anal sex and that's it, because those both provide the kind of receptive setting the virus needs to be passed in.

So you can carry on all you like and it won't change the reality that you were not at risk.

If you are depressed and can't let go of this unwarranted concern then I suggest you see a therapist or other professional and discuss your situation. You don't have HIV. Period. End of story.

Hello,
I want to ask you a question because i have find different answers about this.
The inner lips of the vagina(red)are from mucous membrane or not?
Because i am really worried about the frottage situation.the inner lips of the vagina cant absorb the virus? since are made from mucous membrane?
Τhe penis vagina rubbing was without the presence of air.
Please tell me is this a risk?

Thanks again and god bless

This is what I call one of those back door questions which is really about keeping the worried exchange going without any basis in HIV science. Frottage is absolutely not a risk for HIV transmission. Rubbing your penis against the vaginal lips is NOT a risk.

And no matter what questions you come up with, if you go to enough different sites you are absolutely going to find more to feed your unwarranted fears.

Lay off of this what iffing and get on with your life. You did not have a risk as we have made very clear to you. You are not going to be permitted to just keep coming back here with more of that stuff. You'll end up getting a time out what's going to happen. Really.

Rubbing or frottage is NOT the same thing as penetration. As long as his penis remained outside of your vagina there was no risk, even if he had precum.
