« on: March 04, 2007, 12:33:43 pm »
2 years ago i weighed 155lbs @ 5'9". then i started dramatically losing weight w/ no reason. a previous idiotic doc keep blaming thyroid problems. then after getting down to 120lbs <and i looked awful> some1 had the brillant idea for an hiv test. well that solved that queston.

after starting meds i gained 15lbs in shy of 2 months. i was like thank god! well the past 7 months i cant break 135lbs. i eat 4 meals a day. and im not talking light meals. bacon, pot roast, spaghetti w/ meat sauce, kfc so on so on. i even drink that nasty ensure weight gain stuff everyday. i even smoke weed to enhance appetite.<sssshhhh, itza seceret....lol>

something is wrong here! i keep bringing it up to my current idiotic doc and he had the audacity to say, "well mayb god wants you to weigh 135lbs."

well like a buncha of other things the man sez im not accepting that. i c a lota people on here talking about too much weight. what about us people who cant gain weight? whatz the recommended treatment?  i hear mentioned a couple of medications to deal w/ the problem. what r they and of course w/ any hiv medication what r the side effects?

weight gain is my new mission for march. thanx for any suggestions.

Remeron (anti-depressant/anxiety) medication has a GREAT side effect of making you eat as it slows your metabolism.  You will also sleep well.  Worked for me, along with Androgel.

When the time came to wean off the Remeron it was not very bad as long as you decrease it slowly.

Just my 2 cents, and I'm no expert.

Building muscle and therefore wieght is done the old fashioned way by resistence training.

My preference is split training, where you workout 4-5 times a week, but essentially focusing on specific area's for each particular day. Monday - Legs, Tues,- chest, and upper back. Thu. Abs and Lower Back, Fri - Shoulders. Using free wieght makes sure that the other groups are getting worked even when they are not focused on.

Number 1 exerisize is dead lift, working every muscle group.

You have to build up to get to split training, so doing an overall workout 3 - 4 times a week is the place to start, eventually moving to split training, once your aren't getting that sore any more.

The new fagled way of today is then to add stuff like protien and glutamine to help recover and build muscle. The formula that I'm aware of is 1 gram of protien per pound of body wieght. so if you wieght 135 pounds, you should consume 135 grams of protien a day. Whey protien can be a supplement to get you a 40 gram burst in one drink, which then you can make up the rest of the day with natural sources of protien. Not all protien supps are alike, I suggest you get one that has not hydrologized. Jarrow Whey fitst that bill, and can be had at a fair price at newyorkbuyersclub.org. I like the plain flavor, it basicly taste like powdered milk and mixes well with milk, or yogurt, and in shakes. Newyorkbuyersclub.org also have gluatimine in large 1 kilo containers. glutamine is a great recovery amino acid, that you can simply disovle in water. I've often put it in my drink for my long bike rides.

glutamine is also a popluar treatment for digestive upset due to HIV meds.

Its funny, how one person's curse is another man's dream, i could sure use some of that no wieght gain! but the opposite it true, if I'm going to loose wieght, I have to burn more than I consume. but  I still want to build muscle, so the same rules apply.

please put the time in a verify these statements, you'll learn alot on the way!

I also am trying to gain. Done a petty good job of it so far.

Strength training is essential.

Squats is my number one exercise.( I only have dumbells and barbells)

Then all the extra stabalizer movements come next, rows, pullups, pushups, curls and lower legs.

Strength training 3 days a week.

Throwing weights atleast another 2 or 3 days. I take a couple of events and toss the weights per day of throwing.

stones and weight over bar one day.

hammer and caber other days.
