HELP! I bottomed with condom....should I be concerned?
« on: September 15, 2011, 09:43:08 am »
two nights ago I bottomed for a guy whose status is unknown. We used a condom and he was a pretty rough on me. This morning when I got home and took a dump I noticed that I had some bleeding down there. I'm concerned and freaked out because I know anal tears can pose increased risk! What should I do?

- The condom definitely did not slip off, and I don't think the condom broke otherwise I would have noticed it, right?

- Should I be concerned?  Should I start PEP?  Please guys, this is the most important question.

- We did not do oral or anything else, just kissing and then I bottomed for him.

.....what should I do? I am really concerned! If I start PEP I need to start ASAP because as of now it's about 33 hours after the sex, so feedback is appreciated.  I have a very short window to start treatment.  Please.  I just can't help but thinking that I threw my life away.  I do not have sex with stranger often and therefore I am totally freaking out!  Money is not concern for me.

I am so sorry to sound so frantic but I have been going out of my mind in the last 24 hours since I got home yesterday morning.

waimea,

Relax. You have not had a risk for hiv infection. You certainly do NOT need PEP.

Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

If the condom had broken, yes, you would have known. Broken condoms are very obvious.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks so much Ann!  I am just completely freaked out because I have been celibate for very long time (6 years, almost 7 years).  I have never, ever had unprotected sex before and I never will.  This very recent encounter is just the first time that I bottomed for a stranger and therefore the craziness level is skyrocketing!  So based on what you are suggesting I have not exposed myself to HIV because the condom was used for the whole time and it was used correctly and did not fail?  (There was absolutely no bodily penetration that was unprotected in this encounter).  Thank you thank you, I really appreciate the feedback.  I know that this site from many many years ago when I had a hiv scare and I know this site probably has the most valid and trustworthy answers.  Thanks!

waimea,

Yes, I am saying that you did not expose yourself to hiv during this encounter. You did not have a risk of infection.

Keep on using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple! Really!

I am just curious for my own information, but this is a large study involving many many couples, right? We are talking about the magnitude of a couple hundred couples all together?  Or these are studies with like 5 couples?  I am not doubtful, but I'm just curious.

What? did you actually read what you quoted? It was THREE studies. All together, they involved hundreds of couples and one of them went on for TEN years.

You have been told both here and on another website that you were NOT at risk for hiv infection. It's time you took that on-board.

Re-read your thread here and at the other place until it begins to sink in.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

I am so sorry Ann.  Please accept my sincere apologies.  I will stop and I promise this will be my last post about my situation.  I just wanted to say sorry.  Yours truly.  -waimea
