Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Hello,
         I just had a question about getting hiv from a cut.
If I had a cut on my hand and it came in contact with another persons cut on their hand wouldn't large amounts of blood have to be present. Or at least visible blood from both cuts for any chance of hiv to be spread.

I know Im just being paranoid, but an answer on this question would be greatly appreciated.

Gary, it would take copious amount of blood and yes, you and the other party would have to have a laceration to cause one to become infected besides one of you would have to have HIV.

And further, HIV is not an easy virus to transmit, even assuming the other person is HIV positive. It's a fragile virus and it just doesn't get passed in the kind of ordinary life scenario you are concerned about.

Hello,
       It's been a while since I've posted on here. This is by far the best Hiv/Aids website on the web. I really appreciate everyone that takes time to reply back about my questions as well as everyone else's.

I recently had a incident where I shook hands with a Dr. I was going to. After I shook his hand I noticed a small amount of blood on my thumb. I didn't have any cuts on my thumb or hand at the time.

My question is: There isn't any way I could have contacted hiv from this incident since I didn't have a cut also. Is that correct? Even if I had a cut it would have had to have been a large amount of blood to even be a concern.  Isn't that right?

Please bare with me. I have OCD and am currently seeing two different doctors for this problem. I know this isn't a OCD site, but hearing answers back from some of you on here would really help me get over this incident.

What's weird is that the Dr. I'm talking about is the therapist I am going to help me get over my phobia/paranoia of Hiv. I guess he just didn't realize that he had a cut that was bleeding or something. I guess one thing that has heightened my fear about getting someone else's blood on me is due to the fact at work they show a movie about blood borne pathogens. About how not only hiv be spread through blood, but also hepatitis.
Shouldn't have watched that movie.

       I did something really stupid last night. I went over to this couples house and things got a little out of hand. I didn't have intercourse, but we had all had a little too much to drink and put on some porn. Anyway, things got a little crazy. My only exposure was that as we were watching the movie I was stroking myself (don't know any other way to say it) and right as I was about to climax the guys wife leaned over and did oral on me until I did climax. Is there much for me to worry about here. It's been a long time since i've been on the site and have been doing well as far as safe sex and everything. I really messed up. Another reason i'm worried about her doing oral on me is because I know they meet up with other single guys on a regular basis and play. Why I was so stupid is beyond me. I guess the drinking played a part in it. No excuse though. I should have been smarter , especially after being on this site before. How much at risk am I to have contacted hiv from this incident. I'd appreciate your response. I know you do a lot to help people on here. Do I need to get tested in three months?

Unprotected anal and vaginal intercourse are the means by which HIV is transmitted, you don't get it from receiving a blowjob.
In the history of the epidemic there's never been a case of transmission from getting a blowjob, and you certainly aren't going to be the first one.

I know you said that there wasn't any risk of Hiv infection from getting oral sex from a girl, but why does the CDC say there is? Are they just trying to cover themselves?
I wasn't worried about the incident where this girl have me oral sex after your last reply, until I went on the CDC site. Now I'm thinking I'll need to get tested at 3 month mark.

Get tested if you like. Don't be surprised by your negative result.

Yes, the CDC is funded by the Bush "Abstinence Only" administration. They're covering their ass. Big time.

You have not had a risk for hiv infection.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple and that's the REAL deal.
