Everything becomes a remake....
« on: August 18, 2007, 04:54:52 am »
Not sure how many horror film buffs are out there but Her Majesty loves her horror movies. Lately they have been making remakes to the classic horror movies and to me failing miserably. My point being look what happened when they tried to remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre....HATED IT. Now it's the remake of Halloween. I remember the original use to scare the shit out of me when I was a Princess. Now Rob Zombie is doing the remake. I am hoping he will do it justice. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt because I loved his movie The Devil's Rejects which really wasn't horror but good to me nonetheless. He also gets some love because we share the same birthday. What are your thoughts? Has to say I was disappointed that he didn't wait til Halloween to release it like they use to do back in the day.

Can marriages be re-done with a different cast or does it always come out the same?

How about it, Queen? Or does this question constitute a hijack? .....

I love horror movies, too, QA. I think Rob Zombie will do great for the remake of "Halloween". "House of a 1000 corpses" and "The Devil's Reject's" were awesome movies.

Give me the horror I grew up with:

Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte  I was six and my parents let me stay up in my jammies on the floor to watch it.  I could swear I saw the red blood running down Bette Davis' dress, but when I see it now it's in B&W.

Shall I go on?

I like horror movies, as long as they are not the slasher movies that just show the constant ways a body can be mutilated.....sees enough of that at work.  Prefer the more ghost like ones maybe?
Favorite's:  Pumpkinhead, Salem's Lot, Children of the Corn, The Others, Sixth Sense, Rose Red?, Skeleton Key
Really like the B-movies too, remember The Monster Club?
Bought some great B-movie compilations off the $1 rack at Target last Halloween.

I like "psychological horrors" such as Silence of the Lambs. I also like occult/religious horror. The Order, Constantine, & The Exorcist (remake) are my favorites in that category. I saw the original Exorcist, and it was ... dull.

One I've always wanted to see is Lord of Illusions, but I can't find it.

When I was 8 years old, I was utterly terrorized by the marketing campaign for this movie...especially the poster (below).  When had woods behind our house and my imagination went wild that there was a critter like this just waiting to chow down on me.

Saw it years later.  Kind of a bust, but would make a kick ass remake with a better write of the script and today's effects tech.

If some of you like a horror movie with a good twist, like the Sixth Sense type twist, check out "High Tension/ Haute Tension". It is an amazing thriller, with a very good twist.

Damn Andy, now why you gotta ask questions that require me to use a lot of brain cells. I am trying to keep some in reserve... ;D...Hmmm, let's see...A marriage redone, wouldn't that be considered getting remarried? And if so, it would automatically have a new cast. Now if you're speaking of a current marriage, I would say yes, that's called renewing your vows and the only cast that would be different would be the guests. Nothing has to come out the same, you could always change some things, whether it be something small or something major.

Is it a hijack, not if your past marriage reminded you of a horror film.... ;D And if your current marriage reminds you of a horror film, I would say RUN BITCH RUN.....Which what I call the females who are being chased... ;)

Has seen all the Pumpkinhead movies, has Salem's Lot, the remake to that sucked royally, Children of the Corn, has seen most of them and each new sequel becomes weaker than the last, hated The Others, loved Rose Red and has never heard of The Monster Club.

OMG! Baby was totally freaky. She was so sadistic, and sociopathic. She thought all of the things she did were funny. That movie was great, but it bordered on a little bit too disturbing.

Loves Silence of the Lamb, has all those but Silence and Hannibal Rising...Don't think I would buy it unless it was in the 99 cent bin. I have all of the Exorcist movies except the 2nd and 3rd, has the newer versions though. The original use to scare me and give me nightmares. Constatine...wasn't feeling it although Keanu looked yummy as always. You never saw Lord of Illusions? Wow..All I will say is watch it and make up your own mind.

I was going to reply the other day but had to sign off:

As for being a horror fan, I  read both Arrow and bloody disgusting almost everyday and if you want the scoop on remakes check out http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com/

I am thrilled about Danielle Harris being in the Halloween remake and have a groove on Zombie's directing it, but am not so keen on the some aspects - like the fact that Sherri Moon plays Myers mom and we get this whole back story of her being a stripper/pole dancer at the Red Rabbit Lounge (Think matchbook cover from first movie) sort of like Michael's mom is a whore and thats why he went crazy!

All that said I'm reserving final judgment until I see it.l

I went to that site and had a hard time trying to pull the Halloween trailer up. But I am a bit buzzed at the moment... ;D Um, who is Danielle Harris? I don't remember there being a back story to the mother in the original, wonders why he is trying to make one now? I think they made a good choice on the guy that plays Dr.Loomis in this one although no one can do Loomis better than Donald Pleasence...RIP..I need to see the original again but notices that the movie channels never play anything but h2o. I know AMC shows the original around Halloween time but plays part 4 and 5 to death. Does Rob put his wife in all his flicks?

Danielle Harris played Jamie Lloyd (Laurie Strode's daughter) in Halloween 4 & 5.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Lloyd

As for Rob Zombie's wife - yeah - I think she just said something at a convention where she plans to only work in her husband's movies.

I saw The Exorcist when I was only 6....BIG MISTAKE...as a good Catholic boy that I was, this movie FUCKED ME UP for the rest of my childhood.  I had to become an antheist before the trauma was gone for good....lol.

I always loved horror movies, especially vampire movies...there was a whole series of vampire movies done by Hammer Film Productions starring Christopher Lee as Dracula from 1958-1970's.

I love the old horror movies, but now as i watch them, they dont seem so scary.
Psycho..i watched it lately and i wasnt scared at all.
Now since they have come out with much better horror movies, the old ones arent scary at all.
I saw the exorcist, and was scared shitless..I believe that was 1974 when i saw it at
the Beacon theather in nyc..Now that scared me real good..
Loved silence of the Lambs..one of my favorites..
Remember the house of wax with Vincent price...thought that was scary then, not so
now..
Love a good thriller...If you know of any ..let me know..ciao my friends

I love the old horror classics. They must be viewed in black and white though. This digital remastering and colorization sucks. They were not shot to be seen in color, they don't play out well that way.

Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolf Man (that one used to scare me half to death).

Some newer ones include Salem's Lot, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tomb of Ligea.

Of course, no collection would be complete without those wonderfully campy 1950s horror films such as Tarantula, Earth vs. the Spider, Them!, When Worlds Collide, (I know a little of pre-science fiction, but still fun).

I loved The Exorcist, The Omen, The Prophecy (not the same as listed above), The Wickerman.

Don't much care for slasher movies, though.

HUGS,

I hate to say it but not really into the oldies when it comes to horror films. I tried to watch some on AMC once and it really just bored me. I do like Salem's Lot but finds that I fall asleep when I watch it. I forgot all about the Omen movies, I didn't like the remake of that either. It would be interesting if they made a newer one showing that Damien took over, as in being full grown. Do you mean the Prophecy with the war among the angels? The one who has Christopher Walken in it? I just watched that last night. I just wish that when they decide to make sequels that they stick with the past storylines, ya know. The only one I have seen do that is the Saw trilogy.

Someone mentioned vampire flicks, uh, with the name I have, of course I love vampire flicks. Mark, have you ever seen Blacula? Loves that movie and about as classic as I go. My fave is Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned, like duh... :D Didn't really care for the Wes Craven spin on vampires as in Dracula 2000 and the 2 sequels that followed. The same goes for John Carpenter's Vampires. I liked the 1st and 3rd Blade movies, was starting to like the series on Spike but then they pulled it. And how about Forver Knight, that use to be my show. And of course, Dark Shadows...

Queen - that's what the Omen 3: Conflict was all about. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082377/

Or do you mean you want to see a remake where he does bring about the complete end of days?

Oh wow, I didn't realize Halloween was being remade by Rob Zombie.  I am so there!

A good remake that comes to mind was Dawn of the Dead a few years back.  I agree that many are a bust though.

Another movie I CAN'T WAIT for is Thirty Days of Night.

I think my favorite horror movie of all time is Brahm Stoker's Dracula.  But I can't make up my mind if I think this is a horror flick or romance.  Just very well done.  Also loved Interview with the Vampire.

I'm with Mark, I've always loved the "Universal Monsters".   When I was a boy, it was trendy to put together monster model kits.....I had Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, the Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon....

We went to see the original "Halloween" when it was first released (late 70's)? and when I got home that night, our gay neighbors had slipped into our apartment and one of them was hiding under my bed....when I sat down to pull off my shoes, he reached out and grabbed my foot.....

We had to call a truce soon after that, because I slipped over there in the middle of the night and cut off their power....then tapped on the windows.....

That is one long ass movie. After I finally sat thru it w/o dozing off, I realized I liked it too. I would consider it a twisted love story.

I would agree, Queen. It is, at its heart, a love story - be it a twisted one.
"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful nor conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, adaptation in A Walk To Remember

The first horror flick I saw was "Dracula" with Bela Lugosi.  I was like five or six and saw it on Creature Feature.  My mother had to lay with me until I fell asleep that night I was so horrified.

The first I saw was Children Shouldn't Play with Dead things and it was on local TV's Chiller Theater.

I think the commercial break claymation hand that took the letters from Chiller Theater scared the hell out of me more than any movie I ever saw at that time.

I can finally say this is a first for me...I saw the new Halloween movie. I bullshit you not. Before it even came out...Hooooo Raaaaaah. I am not one to give away anything but I thought it was rather decent. The one thing I will say is I wanted more blood, not to say the kills weren't exquisite. I think Rob Zombie put his own spin to it along with sticking to some of the classic scenes from the original. I don't think I gave away anything....For those you dying to see it, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I love a good horror movie (ever since the original "The Haunting of Hill House" with Julie Harris scared the piss out of me when I was a kid--and yes, the remake sucked.)

Yeah, I'm glad you are going to see it. I consider you a horror fan like me and I want to hear your opinion on it and discuss some of the scenes, well maybe not that cause I wouldn't want to ruin it for those who hasn't seen it yet.

Wow, Queen!  Utter coolness!  You got to see Halloween in adbance, eh?  I'm gonna go sometime soon and see it.  I just have to.

Another John Carpenter film I am a huge fan of is The Thing.  I think that flick is fantastic.

Is that the one with Adrienne Barbeau in it? You know the chick with the big hooters back in the day. She played in the HBO series Carnivale also....

Nope.  Kurt Russell.  Wilfred Brimley was also in it.  And lots of blood and goo.

The film had a high "squish factor".  A most excellent clip is below....

HATE

Maybe I am too much a fan of the first, maybe it is impossible to reimagine...I dunno.

Was nice to see Dee Wallace and Ken Foree and Sherri Moon was pretty good - but damn this one blew chunks for me.
