Worried and in love!
« on: July 26, 2007, 08:46:27 pm »
My Baby has called me many times today talking about the intense shooting pain down his left leg. We both know that he is neg. He has been saying that these symtpoms r classic for sciatia. I have no idea what it was, but it sounded scary...so I did my research. My baby, Mike, is 50...he claims that he is old and sick. He has also came to the conclusion that if his GP says that it is sciatia, then I shud dump him and find some1 younger and cuter.
The only problem is that I cannot. I made a vow/committment to stay w/ him, no matter what. I do not know how much of that he believes, but I guess he is trying to make me feel bad or something.

Well Rob, maybe he's having a midlife crisis or something.  My ex- had sciatica and it's not totally debilitating.  Are you getting more attention than he is because you're poz?  My dad's funny like that, because my mom has Hospice coming in and us kids are going in to my parents' home and giving her most of the attention, so every once in awhile, my dad "acts up" so he can get some attention.  Just some thoughts....

Rob~~

It sounds to me by your post that your Baby doesn't know what it is and assuming the worse. I can relate and have done it myself. Maybe you both should get together and research sciatia just to get information but also remind your Baby that his doctor has not confirmed what it is yet. Undue worrying can cause other problems if he's not careful...

Hi Rob

For some the pain from sciatica can be severe and hard to tolorate especially if their pain thresh hold is not that good, but this can be managed with anti-inflammatories.

Sounds to me like he was just having a painful down day, age has nothing to do with it either, it seems to target most people between the ages of 25-50, he was in pain and  probably feeling a little sorry for himself, but that's ok he's allowed to..Tell him life begins at 50 and he has nothing to worry about.

I wish he wudn't b such a baby about it, but I wud Never tell him that.

Sciatica can be very painful. Imagine a butt/thigh cramp that doesn't go away for a week  :-[ This is usually due to a compressed hernia lumbar disc (sp?). If the doctor diagnoses it as sciatica, the cause will have to be found. If it's not a chronic sciatica then this will go away and he can take steps to avoid this happening again. He's 50? Get him to talk to 80 years olds, they will teach him a lesson about old age :)

I am worrying about him less and less now. Don't get me wrong, I do worry about him and the pain that he is in. What pains me is that I cannot b there to comfort him, when we r still 6K miles awy...damn LDRs.
I keep on telling him that he cannot push me away, when all I want to do is help. He had a GP appt., which he moved up upon my insistence. The GP diagnosed it as sciatica and gave him some pain killers. The pain killer just numbed the pain. He did go out that evening to the gym and worked his legs. I keep on telling him to take it easy, but I can only tell him so much.
When I say all I want to do is take care of him, he claims that I have a geriatic fetish and need to b "cured". My need to take care of him is to show that I will always b w/ him, which I am sure he understands.
When he saw a GP, his question was to go and c a chiapractor. The GP laughed, but my Baby went and saw 1 anyways. He has to see 1 daily.
I am sure that he will get better. I told him that it will not cripple him or the like. He just likes to assume the worst. That is what bugs me about this right now. I know that he will get better.

It's easy when you're in a bad situation to assume the worst.  I'm wondering if maybe you seeing someone to talk about all this to would help you; like a counselor.  I've been in therapy since 1991 and it's been my salvation at times.  There's nothing wrong with that.  Please keep talking.
