The silly statement by the drug pharma execs about a "chilling" signal is so pathetic, the recourse is to do what china did when they learned that obscene kick backs were received by the official who allowed all the dog food to be poisoned.  He was sentanced to death by hanging, this should be fate of most all medical insurance execs who are obviously traitors to the usa population and the worlds population.

Brazil Busts Sustiva Drug Patent  Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva issued a “compulsory license” today to make an inexpensive generic version of HIV med efavirenz available nationwide, despite Merck’s patent on the product as Sustiva. Yesterday the government rejected Merck’s offer to sell the drug at a 30% discount. Merck issued a statement saying, “This expropriation of intellectual property sends a chilling signal to research-based companies about the attractiveness of undertaking risky research on diseases that affect the developing world.”

Yep. 2 good stories. Obscenely large kick-backs are probably as common in China's Judiciary (political puppets) as the rest of the "peoples'" government. The hanging had more to do with public outcry over the toxic poisoning his neighbors received from his dog food enterprise than any other issue (a crime worthy of severe punishment)----certainly wasn't China's concern for animal life over here. lol. I don't favor capital punishment, but that doesn't mean I cry over every hanging either! He was a real Grade-A s--thead!

Story Two: Merck vs. Lula: One more reason I am glad I supported (Pres.) Lula in Brazil for over 20 years, back when we both were machinists (imagine that). He's less popular now that he's in charge of such a complicated and challenged nation---he gets all the blame! I pray he and his elected coalition stay in power a good while for Brazil's sake. This is real leadership! Too bad we don't have some of that here!  8)  -megasept

Are you slap out of your mind?  Are you seriously suggesting a death by hanging for "most all medical insurance execs"?

lol....my relatives in Brazil call him a communist.  I like the guy, I hope he does even more for Brazil like land reform which is desperately needed.
I also hope he does something about the Amazon, it is a shame how they burn down the rain forest to raise cattle and soy, and since Dubya's visit and the ethanol thing, I am afraid the ignorant will burn the forest to plant sugar cane...that will be a disaster.. the NE of Brazil was rain forest until the portuguese burn down the trees to grow sugar cane and cocoa, now the NE it is a semi arid region.
