Still need to test after 6 months
« on: August 31, 2012, 01:08:20 am »
Hi Ann/Andy,

Please help me:

My situation: 1 time unprotected vaginal sex with a female sex worker, also did ejaculate inside.

Tesing upto today:

DUO after 20,47,57,71,82,93 days---negative
DNA PCR after 28 days---not detected

Now after 3 months there are some confusion regarding the window period and conclusive HIV test. Many sources in internet says 6 months test need to be taken to rule out entirely.

Also after taken the 93 days DUO I am having some unexplained symptoms like: lump on both the hands beside bicep in between shoulder and elbow, sore throat, discomfort in groin and most importantly some small tiny rashes in forehead.

One more thing I am addicted to chewing tobacco and smoking. For last 10 years or so I am using it.

Questions:
1. Can this symptoms possibly related to HIV?
2. Should I need to go for 6 months test?
3. My Status now?
4. Can Chewing heavy tobacco leads to a false negative test or this habit has any effect on antibody production?

Please help me as I am about to marry very soon, and before that I need to clearly understand my status else it is going to be problem for my life partner too.

worried,

1. No. You are conclusively hiv negative. You do not have hiv.

2. No. Three months is conclusive.

3. You are conclusively hiv negative. You do not have hiv.

4. No. Absolutely not.

You've been reading "information" that is years out of date. The window period has been three months for over a decade.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

You do NOT have hiv. If you feel unwell or are worried about lumps or bumps or rashes, see your doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv. You do NOT have hiv!

Thanks a lot Ann.

So now whatever I am facing in terms of symptoms thats not related to HIV. I am actually very frightened about my wife. So thats why Ann I am asking this.

If you feel that I required any further test please tell me. Your comment matters a lot to me.

Please once again suggest if I required any more test or not knowing my habits and ongoing symptoms.

Worried,

Ideally, you and your fiancee should both have complete sexual health check ups - including but by no means limited to hiv testing - before you start engaging in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse.

You do not need further hiv testing at this time as you've already confirmed your negative hiv status, but what about your fiancee?

However, as I already stated, you do not have hiv and therefore your symptoms do not have anything to do with a virus you DO NOT have.

See your doctor about your various health worries and find out what is actually causing them. You could be missing something important by focusing on an illness you have already ruled out of the picture.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks a lot Ann for your help.

I am negative from HIV. One thing I am pretty sure she also dont have it. But for precaution I will ask her to do the testing to sure of that.

What I understand for the exposure which I am concerned, I should not be any-more as I am ruled out that by enough testing.

So no more HIV testing for that exposure :).

I am not going to put me in this any-more god forbid. Then I also dont put me at any risk.

Once again I am negative for HIV then from that one time exposure. I will suddenly go for testing for other STD.

Worried,

I have removed your PM privilege. We do not permit people to use PMs as a means of getting around paying a subscription for participation in the Am I Infected forum.

You are not permitted to use PMs to ask questions dealing with hiv transmission and/or testing anyway.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Do NOT use Private Messages to question other members about any transmission, testing or symptom issues. These issues must be discussed in the public forum. Misuse of the PM function in this manner will result in your PM privileges being removed without warning.
