Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

How AT RISK was I last night?

I met a guy whom I've talked with before.  He says that he is always safe and there is not risk of contracting anything from him.

During our encounter, he attempted to penetrate me anally.  It was slightly unsuccessful, with the most he got in was the head of his penis.  I'm concerned because he pre cums a slight bit and while he was not inside for very long, he was still slightly inside.

Based upon this information and the way in which HIV is transmitted, what is the urgency to meet with a healthcare professional to start a PEP regimen within the next 72 hours?

No, I don't think PEP is warranted in this briefly risky situation.

If only for your peace of mind I recommend getting tested at 3 months. I expect you will test negative.

It doesn't matter what assurance a sexual partner gives you about their negative status or how great they look or anything else. Anytime you are having anal (or vaginal) intercourse, the insertive partner should always be wearing a condom. No exceptions.

Thanks for that response. 

As I spent most of my night reading this site until I could receive approval to be a registered member here, It would seem PEP maybe a bit overboard in this case.

Obviously, its just a very uncomfortable thought that I allowed this to briefly happen.  I have only reacted with great concern because I live in a city that is ranks #2 for the highest aids rate per capita

I take no one for their word.  Its the most reassurance he could offer though..

We are both young guys in college and I have not a clue of his past.

Well I am glad you found this site. As a young guy this is the right time for you to get into the habit of protecting your health by always using condoms for intercourse.

And that is something you ought to do until such time as you may find yourself in a securely monogamous relationship in which both partners reliably test negative together. That's important because even well meaning people don't always know their HIV status accurately. So condoms everytime. No exceptions.

Also, other STDs are easier to acquire than HIV. So if you are sexually active, having a full STD panel done at least once a year is a good idea too.

Sexuality is one of the great gifts of life. So enjoy it but do it the safer way.
