Left my heart in s.f.
« on: September 24, 2007, 11:28:19 am »
I didn't think i would enjoy A.M.G. as much as i did, Nadine really wanted to go so off we went.I was looking forward to meeting a few of the people i had talked to on line, and seeing S.f.
I think it was the second night we were there everyone was together talking and Thom looked at me and put his arm around me, big grin on his face, and it dawned on me.( i am always amazed on how "STOOPID" i can be sometimes)

this was not just a group of people getting together because of a common bond ( hiv)
but a group of people that had more love in there hearts than in any other place i have been in.
Its hard to put in words. Such a diverse group of people but with one thing in common.
Love for there fellow man, compassion, wanting to help and sharing your pain when your down. sharing your joy when the good things come your way.
Lucas did not leave his heart in s.f.
I came back with more heart than i left with.

                                      love ya all

Lucas,

I totally know what you mean.  I came to SF not knowing what to expect.  I was very nervous and unsure about things.  But I agree that it turned out to be so much more than just a group of people who came together because of a common bond (HIV).  The love and acceptance was amazing.  I had never felt anything like that before.  It is so good to see that so many have been touched by this short experience.  With so many bad things in life... this is one of the very bright spots.

Hi Lucas,

this love, friendship, bonding energy is definitely recurrent in all the posts I've seen from everyone that participated in AMG. I too never felt something like this with so many people. I look forward to seeing everyone again.

If you think there was any bonding that occurred at your first AMG, wait 'til you attend another one!  You've already met a lot of the people you'll see next year, so much of the initial 'apprehension' won't even even be an issue.  You'll jump right into the 'second night' almost right away.  It'll be like you're meeting a few new people, but also like you're reuniting with a lot of old friends.  What's also cool is just what Milker mentions.  You can almost see a difference when attendees reply to posts of other attendees.  It's not just a screen name and words you're responding to; it's a real person that you talked to, and maybe really got to know, at the AMG.

It's not just a screen name and words you're responding to; it's a real person that you talked to, and maybe really got to know, at the AMG.

For me , this is the biggest (and I hope longest-lasting) effect of attending AMG.  I appreciate all of our technology that allows us to communicate and keep in touch over long distances.  But meeting in person is far more powerful, and forges a stronger connection with, and understanding of, one another.  That's what I am most grateful for.

Hey Lucas,

I live close enough to SF to go anytime and have often done so.  In all my travels to the city, I have never felt more at home and at peace with the world as I did at AMG.  Have the best day

Lucas

Sorry for the tardy reply, but I wanted to say I thought your post above was wonderful.  You said it perfectly, what so many of us felt during AMG.

Meeting you and Nadine made it even better.
