hiv hemopurifier

Hi ALL,
A while ago i was reading about the HIV Hemopurifier but there jhasnt been much in the news about this of late has anyone heard anything new??

The company that makes the device (http://www.aethlonmedical.com/technology/) completed a safety clinical trial in April of this year (good results), but it was on patients with renal disease. Altough the company still mentions the usefulness of the device for Hiv-positive patients, I don't think they have had any official trials for the disease. I sent them an email requesting info on this, so we'll see. The idea is intriguing, a physical way to remove virus from the blood, even if one has to do it every couple of weeks. If only this did clear the blood permanenetly! Maybe they will find a way of incorporating this into a treatment regime that will finally result in achieving the clearing of infection. You never know.

Hmmm, sounds kinda fishy to me, but then again, who knows.

It reminds me of the idea someone had to remove the blood, heat it to kill the virus, then replace it into the person's body. This was done on some people back in the early to mid '90s.

I never heard of it helping, but I did hear of people becoming very ill as a result.

I will wait to see if this current idea has any merit to it.

It doesn't seem like quackery, at least going by their website. Apparently the FDA has granted them a class tree medical device status.

The invention here is the filter, which is supposed to be able to trap the virus as it goes through it. The process itself of based on the mechanism of dialisis, whicih is well-established. Still...I'll believe it when it's proven that it works.

therein lies the problem.   HIV does not just reside in the blood, like impurieties dialysis removes. 

This is junk and quackery at it's highest and this is worthless.

I must say that I remain very optimistic about new treatments, but I have to agree with what others are saying.

It's basically a filter and when working with a fast replicator such as HIV, I say it's rubbish. This method doesn't prevent replication of latent viruses hiding inside host cells or viral protein biosynthesis. Also, their publications are in obscure journals that I have never heard of and findings are so significant as they claim, their publications would be in top tier journals with a higher profile (such as virology, science, nature). So I say their findings -at least in the scientific community- is of minimal significance. An entertaining idea though, like going in every month for botox and spending all that money just so you can go back again and be "purified".

It doesnt clear the dormant hiv etc, it takes it out of the blood. No ones calling this a cure. I Think it sounds great it would compliment the current and future therapies.

Wasn't one of the early treatments where you removed the blood and boiled it then put it back in the body- with dire consequences? I think this road has been traveled already.

no it is different. This hemopurifier was developed innitially to combat effects of anthrax etc... cmon guys this is a new approach. lets get excited and be positive about new possible treatment options!!
If it works it could mean less medication needs to be taken, and THAT gives me hope.

it is not a new approach.

It is quackery in relation to hiv because hiv does not exist solely in the blood.   It might have merit if it did... but it doesn't.
