Title: Scared 2 DEATH, Broken Condom - NOW ARS Symptoms
Post by: Scaredd2Death on June 23, 2014, 02:15:51 pm
May 14th - condom broke, I was insertive partner, anal sex.

My partner is 21 years old. We had sex 2 times after this incident, but condom stayed intact, as I wore 2 condoms after (ran water in condom to make sure it didn't fail after we were done, no leaks)

Partner insisted I wear a condom and said all the partners wear one, but I have no idea if my partner is telling the truth. I asked  after it broke about HIV, my partner said the tests showed negative. I still should've ran to ER for PEP.

June 17th - runny nose left nostril, then got a cough with mucous, a sore throat (went away after 5 days) & Blepharitis in eye (crust all over left eye) cleared up with eye drops though 2 days later.

I have not had any fever or chills, but I heard that when you get infected that HIV ars symptoms can be different for everyone. Some people may just come down with a mild cold like I have now.

I can walk around during day, no cough. Then when I go to bed at night, cough is worse. Feels like Bronchitis.

I am scared. I was depressed when I had sex, which is why I sought it out.

I just wanted to play it safe, I never wanted to contract any STD, I wore a condom, and it failed me.

I was tested before my encounter, everything was negative. That's giving me little solace now. A broke condom is a risk, I put my life at risk. Now, I may have to live with that choice for the rest of my life, even though I wanted to stay safe!

I am very worried. I could use any advice or help,

Whoa, whoa, whoa and slow down, bud. A broken condom is a risk but a very low level one. The condom protected you until it broke. The risk is significantly lower for the insertive partner when the condon breaks. And it we're talking about a single relatively short incident. Putting it all together I expect you to come out of this ok when you test.

None of your symptoms are in anyway HIV specific.

You can test initially at 6 weeks. If you get the negative result which I am expecting then you will be virtually guaranteed to test negative at 3 months for a conclusive result.

If your symptoms persist you should see your doctor. I don't see HIV as the cause in this situation.

It wasn't clear to me if you were doubling your condoms for intercourse. If you were, don't do that. Instead of providing greater protection, doing that actually is more likely to cause breakage.

I don't see PEP as warranted in this situation. Again, I expect you to come out of this ok.

Andy, thank you for personally replying, I'll let you know how it turns out, either way. I'll test at six weeks, and hopefully that comes out negative so I can test again at 3 months.

I am never using Trojan Magnums again, this was the brand that broke. It broke right at the insertion point with a few thrusts, doggy style.

I was inside my partner for 1 to 2 minutes before it felt like it broke. It did break right on the top of the head, which has me very worried. There was no blood, but from what I read the anal fluids contain more virus than even blood. I wish I knew this before I engaged in this type of sex.

I read online about how your urethra can function like a straw and suck up anal fluids as such with the suction from thrusting, allowing the virus to then enter your urethra.

I am still very worried, I don't know why I put my life at risk like this.

I just wanted to be safe, wear protection and not have to worry. It seems that even when you plan to be safe, something can still go wrong. I just can't make sense of this.

I still talk to the person I was with. Again, my results were negative prior and I had no partners before this latest one. My partner is willing to test, but I'm scared to think of what the results may come out as.

Its rare for the insertive partner to go on to test positive after a condom break so you should fully expect a negative test when you test at the appropriate time .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Andy Valez, please advise:

I did the six week test, blood rapid test--oraquick I believe, finger prick and results in 20 mins, I was crying during the wait. Nurse told me it was negative.

I was relieved, but wish this were my 3 month test; I understand this is not conclusive till 3 months. My risk was May 14th.

The nurse said my blood pressure was 142/92, do not know if this is related to ARS. I also had lost some weight according to scale.

I still have a lingering cough from that "cold" I had. My body cleared my sore throat, my infected left eye--bacterial infection, and my runny nose.

If HIV had caused this cold, would the antibodies show by now?

I will still test at 3 month mark, but I am very scared right now. I am scared of how this will effect my elderly mother if I come out as poz.

Its rare for 6 week negative test to go to be positive at 12 weeks ... so rare that I have never seen a case of it happening .

You should fully expect a negative result when you confirm at 12 weeks . Having a cold or being sick would not interfere or give you inaccurate results so you can trust your 6 week test as negative . Its safe to say that HIV is not whats making you sick . Im confident you will go to test negative and you should be too .
